With the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder tied in the Western Conference playoff finals, Victor Wembanyama He seems destined to be a difference maker, even more so than before. Simply put, the NBA doesn't have anyone quite like French, which also means OKC doesn't have a ready-made power forward/center counter. Finally, and most importantly, NBA 2K he doesn't have anyone else quite like Wemby, especially when it comes to the current roster. Heck, even classic teams don't just have a 7'4″ giant with an 8-foot wingspan.
2K is caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, NBA 2K games try to be authentic simulations of real business, or at least as accurate as they can be; on the contrary, Wemby can somehow feel even more broken NBA 2K26 than in the real NBA. Alternatively, 2K puts authenticity aside and creates a de-powered version that looks but doesn't actually play like the Spurs superstar. How can he NBA 2K26 balance him out for the rest of his run? How will it be NBA 2K27 handle Wemby? Is there a middle ground? Or should we all accept that Wemby will be the last NBA boss for the next decade?

A new type of broken
Historically, sports games have featured broken characters, including past ones NBA 2K release with some LeBron versions. In most of these cases, the “OP” element boils down to a single stat like speed or strength that can be fixed relatively easily either in a patch or the next game. Sure, the argument can be made that the likes of LeBron, Messi, and Wayne Gretzky are “broken” in real life, so their video game counterparts should reflect that fact; however, all of these legends operate on essentially the same rules as any other player in their respective games, even if they happen to be better at most things. Developers can balance these OP players while allowing them to feel like authentic representations.

The best NBA games, ranked
Sports games aren't easy to make, but when they're good, they're really good. Here are the best NBA games, ranked by their size.
Wembanyama stands out because it is different in a unique way that tends to cause problems NBA 2Kphysics. A rim protector usually has to rely on physics animation to fight a shot (jump, move into position), but Wemby's reach and wingspan are so incredibly long that the engine can mistake his model's actions for contests or blocks even though he hasn't actually done anything. As NBA 2K26 continues to receive updates for the next few months, 2K should use this time to experiment with Wemba tuning in preparation for the event. NBA 2K27. The upcoming game can't be designed for single player, but they need to pay more attention to Wemby to ensure that he plays like a genuine article but doesn't break the game.
Somehow Wemby seems to feel either inadequate or broken NBA 2K games.
Why NBA 2K's usual law of balancing doesn't work with Wembanyama
Another type of giant
Wemby is hardly the first incredibly tall player to take part in the NBA, and 2K has traditionally depended on a fairly decent method of balancing their overpowered stature. NBA 2K it relies heavily on a balanced system of player archetypes along with badges. If you are 7'4″, the engine is designed to penalize your lateral quickness, ball handling and perimeter shooting to make the game fair.
It doesn't really work with Wemby unless NBA 2K27 prefers authenticity. To be accurate, the play must feature the Spurs player's fluid dribbling, quick perimeter closing speed and surprisingly great step-back shooting, a combination that could make Wemby almost unguarded. That would be rather true, but it also doesn't sound particularly fun.
How has NBA 2K handled Wemby so far?
OK so far, but things will get harder as Wemby improves (as he is doing right now)
Debut in NBA 2K24Wembanyama quickly became one of the community's favorite players and quite a few player lineups appeared. As for the official version, NBA 2K26 he did a good job of trying to balance him out as he ended up being one of the best all-around centers while still having enough weaknesses to not be completely godlike. That said, he felt a bit neutered compared to his real life counterpart.

Here are the best dunk styles to use in NBA 2K25.
The thing is, 2025 Wemby is not the same as 2026 Wemby, as the Spurs player has improved quite a bit over the past year. The 2025-2026 season was comfortably his best and NBA 2K26 it also reflected his growth its original rating of 94 received several updates before settling at 97which directly ranks him among the very best players in the game. It also probably did not reach its final form; after all, basketball players rarely peak at age 22, with most peaking in their late 20s.
But as is the case with most players, custom builds are generally more popular anyway, because they allow you to fine-tune everything to perfection.
Does it really matter?
MyPLAYER problem
NBA 2K26 famously raised the max height of custom builder MyPLAYER to 7'4″ for MyCAREER, which led to an onslaught of new super giants that made the official Wemby look ordinary by comparison. Older installments set the limit at 7'3″ for online competitive play in an attempt to balance things out, but that no longer made sense when there was a truly taller player in the NBA. The existence of Wemba means the ability to create 7'4″ custom characters that can be used in some online modes.
Offline, you can create a 7'7″ giant if you want, so you shouldn't have too much trouble facing Wemby if you need to.
No matter what 2K decides to do with Wembanyama NBA 2K27players will quickly put together their own character builds or complete new creations that are 7'4″ and shoot like Steph Curry. That's just the natural way of things, and even 2K shouldn't limit those options. However, even if many people opt for alternate builds, the official model still serves as the mechanical baseline for the entire game. 2K needs to figure out a way to push the physics and stamina. they build as well.
