Illustrator Logan Paul's Pikachu just went for over $16 million

Say what you will about Logan Paul, but he sure knows how to make money. After buying the world's rarest Pokemon TCG card in 2021: PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator for a whopping $5,275,000, he revealed last year that he would be putting it up for auction.

The card that was listed on the Goldin auction site, it just sold for $16,492,000. That's more than triple what he originally paid for it. But it's not just the card itself that people pay for. It will come in a custom-built case and necklace that Paul wore at Wrestlemania, and the winner will also have it hand-delivered.

This is something that Paul has been planning for some time after getting his card in 2021. In addition to wearing her to Wrestlemania to presumably increase her perceived value, Paul tried something with her that many people thought fell into the realm of fraud.

At some point between the purchase of the card and May 2024, Paul listed the card on a platform called Liquid Marketplace. The idea behind this platform is that people can buy shares or “tokens” of high value items like this card. However, Paul eventually revealed that he bought the card back from Liquid Marketplace over 19 months ago.

He also noted that the funds from this purchase, which ideally should have been distributed to those who bought the tokens, saw no such gain. Paul did not disclose how much he bought the card for, which is unusual for someone like him, and claimed he was told the funds were distributed to the party concerned.

However, Liquid Marketplace has since been subject to “regulatory scrutiny”. Paul's lack of answers is especially troubling because it turns out that Paul owns Liquid Marketplace. He said he's still talking to people at the company, but since he's a co-founder and co-owner, it's unclear who he's talking to. Be that as it may, the endgame was accomplished and Paul pocketed over $16 million.
