Marvel Rivals Basically Just Announced Thanos (And When He's Coming)

Marvel RivalsRecent revelations may be more than meets the eye, as if the Black Cat and White Fox confirmations were straightforward enough, Path to Doomsday is likely hiding a big secret in plain sight. For those who missed the announcement, this event schedule confirms the content for each MCU Avengers movie in advance Judgment Dayissue of December 18. The first action according to the original Avengers the movie will be a Dead by Daylight– like Loki mode, where 6 players control normal heroes and the 7th controls a version of Loki enhanced with Infinity Stone powers. As exciting as this mode is, its existence basically lays the groundwork for the debut of The Mad Titan, Thanos.

Alongside the LTM, a new look for Loki is confirmed, which sees him donning the horned helmet and costume from 2012. Avengers film.

This two-month crossover mode essentially backs NetEase into a corner. Because while Age of Ultron will be simple enough – the rogue AI already exists in the game as a playable strategist, so another asymmetric multiplayer experience or a Marvel Zombies-like PvE mode with Ultron bots are viable options – Infinity War and Game over modes are huge red flags. To celebrate these films without the villain that made them so special (esp Infinity Warsince Thanos is more or less the main character) would feel like a big miss and with that Avengers The LTM focuses so tightly on Loki that Thanos' debut feels more solid. And if so, predicting when he will join Thanos Marvel Rivals is extremely easy.

Marvel Rivals: How Stone Reality Thanos Could Be A Literal Game Changer

It seems like it's only a matter of time before Marvel Rivals debuts Thanos, and the Reality Stone in his possession could be a cool ability.

Thanos Marvel Rivals Debut

…Releasing Thanos before two movie events where he's basically mandatory feels like a lock.

If NetEase wants to feature Thanos in whatever event modes they have in mind Infinity War and Game overthen they have to add a villain by August 2026. And when the heroes of the 7th season are locked, the first opportunity for Thanos to debut will be Season 8, which is expected to begin in late May. Season 9 in July would be just as validthough so there's plenty of time to introduce Thanos before those LTMs kick off. There's even a chance that a playable Thanos will be rescued Game over mode a Infinity War a mode that only treats him as an NPC that players fight in a PvE mission. In this scenario, he could work as an addition to the 10th series, as Game overcontent will not be published until October.

Still, Season 8 or 9 remains a safe bet, and it's more likely than not that Thanos will be playable instead of just being an NPC. All the Marvel Zombies bosses were existing heroes that were reworked, and it would be weird if NetEase designed a set full of unique abilities for Thanos, but didn't allow players to use them in their main 6v6 modes. Everyone has also been clamoring for more villains, with Doom expected to join the roster in December to celebrate Avengers: Judgment Dayedition. Outside of him, Thanos would be at the top of many a villain's wish list. NetEase will have a big decision to make with their set, but with the Loki event opening Path to Doomsday and the Ultron event likely to follow, Thanos will go before the two movie events where he's basically mandatory, as a lock.

What Might Thanos' Marvel Rivals Set Look Like?

Let's say this theory is true and Thanos shows up in season 8 or 9. Then there is the question of what his kit looks like. Given his imposing figure, he would be a natural fit Marvel RivalsVanguard role, but it would be up to NetEase to decide if they want to give him the Infinity Gauntlet or not. Without it, he could wield the blade Game overeven if it risks making you feel bland. But with a full Gauntlet, powerscalers might be annoyed that he's no more effective than any other hero, despite having god powers. Perhaps the best route is to give him an incomplete Infinity Gauntlet, with him having more or less stones depending on certain teams (but never having enough to complete the weapon and gain his godlike grasping powers).

Potential Infinity Stone abilities for Thanos could be as follows:

  • The Time Stone: Thanos, unlocked through Doctor Strange's team, could have the power to undo injuries on a chosen teammate, resurrect them, or drastically heal them. Obviously it would take a long cooldown like Strange's portal.
  • Reality Stone: Unlocked through Team Scarlet Witch, Thanos could create a durable, destructible shield out of thin air, dividing enemies or protecting teammates.
  • Soul Stone: Adam Warlock's team that allows Thanos to bond with an enemy, copying their received healing, forcing strategists to choose between helping the target or letting them die in favor of healing others.
  • Mind stone: Thanos' base kit, possibly Ultimate ability. It allows him to mess with all enemies in a selected area by making them see multiple Thanos clones, making it harder to prioritize targets and find the real Titan.
  • Stone of power: Thanos' basic kit, a purple ranged blast that he can use as a complement to his melee attacks, making him viable in multiple combat scenarios.
  • Space Stone: Thanos' basic kit, a movement ability that allows for short teleportation. Maybe players could move to where they are going like movement Overwatch's Reaper.

Realistically, Thanos' set may not look like what's suggested above, but hopefully the Infinity Stones figure into his design to some degree since they're so deeply connected to him. Although it is not officially confirmed Marvel Rivals like Black Cat, it still feels like a lock based on how NetEase seems to be approaching its film tie-ins.
