The John Wick video game takes place before the first film

Last month, Saber Interactive and Lionsgate revealed that the long-rumored John Wick video game was indeed real, releasing a two-minute announcement trailer for what is currently being called the “Untitled John Wick” video game.

Make no mistake though, it is Triple-A in every sense of the word. Up until this point, all John Wick fans have had was a scrapped tactical role-playing game and a fan-made mod for Max Payne 3.

Details are unfortunately very scarce. However, thanks to a new interview IGN conducted with Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits, we have a few more details, specifically when the game will actually take place.

“So yeah, it's before the first movie,” Willits revealed. “And you can kind of infer it because. [in the reveal trailer] he gets measured by the suit and looks a little younger.'

John Wick was the most excited during State of Play, but the list of worries brought me back down to earth.

In this two-minute trailer, Wick actually dresses up in a suit and looks a bit younger, though the confirmation is a good first step.

Perhaps most importantly, not only will Wick look younger, but he will also fight. Fights will feel a bit clumsier and combat will be more instinctive, on Sabre.

In addition to detailing exactly when the game will take place, Willits also offered a sneak peek at what to expect from the current event.

“The great thing about the Wick series is that when you watch the movies, they're kind of like video games,” Willits said. “You have a group of enemies and then you have some tough guys and you have a boss fight and then you have a group of enemies and tough guys and a boss fight. So it's really exciting to bring that action to a video game. It's going to be like watching a movie. That's all I can say.”

That sure sounds like the structure of some of the best action games around, go figure, emulated real life movies.

If all that wasn't enough to get you excited, it was previously revealed that Chad Stahelski (John Wick director and franchise visionary) and Keanu Reeves have a role in bringing the game to life.
