Resident Evil Requiem makes Hideki Kamiya an adorable “non-scary” zombie

The two protagonists of Resident Evil Requiem could not have had more opposite experiences. As Leon destroys the zombies with his kicks and an arsenal of weapons, Grace barely holds herself together as she runs and dodges between them. While Grace's parts of the game are supposed to be scary, it seems they were too scary for Capcom veteran and Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya.

In fact, Kamiya even went so far as to request a “non-scary mode” where he could enjoy the puzzles and combat without worrying about the horror aspect of the game. I'm not sure if Kamiya was joking about the blood splatter turning into cherry blossom petals, but it looks like Capcom kind of granted his wish.

Resident Joyful

In response to Kamiya's tweet, the official Resident Evil handle responded with a picture of everyone's favorite singing zombie munching on Grace, but with cat ears, blushing cheeks, and cherry blossom petals flying around. It's not an entire game mode, but the folks at Capcom clearly didn't want their veteran to feel left out.

Requiem's director, Koshi Nakanishi, recently revealed that the game will be getting more content in May, such as DLC, a photo mode, a minigame, and “surprises.” While he teased a bit about some of the minigames, unfortunately for Kamiya, a 'non-scary' mode is probably not part of the plans.

Sure, a “non-spooky” mode can actually be a fun addition and a fun way to replay the game. Unfortunately, much of the game's brilliant suspense and horror is lost as you gleefully run away from adorable zombies and their hugs. It's surprising that the man who designed Resident Evil 2 is afraid to play Requiem, but who are we to judge?

As for the next installment in the Resident Evil series, Leon actor Nick Apostolides has hinted that the franchise is not ending with the fan-favorite character. We recently found out that he is married, and while there have been hints, the community probably won't rest until his fiancee is finally officially revealed.
