As Marathon As players grind across its three maps to prepare a vault full of goodies to deal with Cryo, it's not uncommon to come across a weapon adorned with a PlayStation-inspired weapon charm. Revealed before MarathonAfter the game's release, owners of the PS5 version of the game can download a free pack from the PS Store that comes with three special charms. All of these charms are based on PlayStation franchises, with the mask being one of them Ghost of Yoteianother being and Helldivers 2 icon and the third is Higgs' battle guitar from Death Stranding 2. While PC and Xbox users got their own charms, PlayStation fans clearly won here, and that's not the only advantage they have.
A lone crowbar charm was made available on the PC front, serving as a fun nod to the highly influential Half Life franchise. Xbox received two spells, but instead of being based on Halo franchise Bungie created, or even Gears of Wargamers on Microsoft's console ended up with two generic green spells based on the Xbox color scheme as opposed to the specific game. There may be other more platform-exclusive collaborations, but of course most felt that PlayStation won with this batch (which isn't all that surprising given that Sony now owns Bungie). When it comes to PlayStation's next big cross-platform win, it's nothing short of an easy Platinum Trophy Marathonwhich, as always, feels like a more rewarding reward for fully completing the game's quests.
Marathon's latest update just did something that no one is happy about
While Marathon's 1.0.0.4 update made some positive changes, one change is proving to be very controversial, with many pushing for its return.
Platinum Trophies continue to give PlayStation the edge in terms of achievements
As someone who maxed PSN Trophy with 50,000 trophies and over 1,000 platinum, I can safely say that I am a fan of the PlayStation achievement system. There are several reasons why I'm so attached to it, from the satisfying noise of unlocking a trophy to PlayStation reward programs like Sony Rewards and PlayStation Stars that attached a cash reward to collecting achievements. The leveling system, organization, and trophy rarity levels all add up to a more satisfying and readable system than Gamerscore, which just feels like a huge number that provides little data on specific high-level achievements. But most of all, it's the stunning Platinum pinnacle that makes PlayStation the king of achievements in my eyes.
Place 9 games in the grid.
Start
Collecting all the achievements for a game on Steam or maxing out the Gamerscore for a specific release on Xbox doesn't give you a big reward at the end. Players simply complete the game, and while they know it happened, it's hard to prove without someone going through a very long list of games. Platinum Trophies make the grind worth it and serve as the ultimate badges of honor that players can point to to show their expertise in certain games. And I highly recommend it to all trophy hunters who enjoy watching those numbers climb Marathonbecause players basically end up with platinum (and tons of gold) for playing the game normally.
Marathon's Platinum Trophy is a toy without the hard tasks
MarathonThe trophy list is as follows and it shouldn't take long for players to understand why it's so easy to 100% complete:

With about 20 hours of play I'm at 81% completion Marathon's list of achievements, and I didn't go out of my way to get a single trophy. Looting containers, fighting UESCs, and yes, dying are all included Marathonmain game loop as an extraction shooter. Players complete contracts, exfil z Marathon's maps and upgrade factions as they go. So far, all I'm missing is Trophies for reaching VIP status with any faction (something I'm getting close to pretty quickly) and 100 season levels. I'm level 41 so players can expect to have Platinum in the 45-50 hour range. And while it may seem quite long, time flies Marathon. More importantly, it's essentially a focus because it's unlocked just by playing and enjoying the game.
Most of the PlayStation exclusives of late have offered fairly straightforward platinums, from open-world affairs such as Ghost of Yotei to the story God of War Ragnarok. Although there is certainly room for Return spiritual successor Saros or Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls to make it a little harder to complete completely is a nice bonus Marathon fans on PlayStation to get a brand new Platinum trophy without any extra work.
