Yonko Challenged: Whitebeard
Ace started his journey at a very young age and quickly made a name for himself. He was offered the position of Sea Warrior, but declined because his ambitions were much greater. His goal was to become the strongest pirate in the world, and he decided to do so by going after Whitebeard himself. Ace didn't back down when the Yonko was in front of him. He challenged him and lost. It was the first of many times he was defeated by Whitebeard.

Gecko Moria
Moria, in her prime, was a force to be reckoned with and a very powerful pirate who stood up to Kaido. He fought and lost a battle against a Yonko. At the same time, his crew was killed, which affected him deeply and changed his view of his crew members. It wasn't specifically specified what or how this happened, but one thing is for sure, Moria never truly recovered from this loss.

Eustace Kid

Yonko Challenged: Red-Haired Shanks
The Kid is a cold-blooded, fearless pirate who entered the New World with one goal in mind, to challenge the Yonko. Over the years, Kid hasn't challenged just one of them. Instead he challenged all four of them, but his main target was Shanks. The first time he fought Shanks' crew, he was defeated and had his hand cut off by Ben Beckman. Later, after the end of the Wano Country arc, Shanks shot him once, leaving him for dead.

Monkey D. Luffy
Wano was the turning point of the series where fans saw Luffy go up against Yonko. Luffy's first encounter against Kaido showed the huge power gap between the two, and when they fought together, it was the first of many defeats Luffy would suffer at the hands of the Yonko. Luffy suffered a total of three defeats. The first defeat came in Kuri and the second and third came on the roof of Onigashima.

Akainu

Yonko Challenged: Whitebeard
Akainu was first introduced during the Summit War of Marineford, where he showed himself to be no pushover. He was the admiral who was constantly fighting against Whitebeard and trying to kill him. Akainu had the upper hand in the fight due to Whitebeard's poor health. But after killing Ace, Akainu suffered the absolute wrath of Whitebeard and was brutally attacked by Yonk, which even shattered the island itself.

Kozuki Oden
Returning to Wan, Oden was in complete disbelief at what had happened to his beloved land. He directed his rage at Orochi, but Orochi made a deal with him, which he accepted. When the time came, Orochi didn't hold up his end of the bargain. Oden understood that in order to save the people and the country, he had to fight. Oden fought Kaid and had the upper hand, but one small distraction cost Oden the fight and he ended up losing.

Yonko Challenged: Big Mom
During the Whole Cake Island arc, Brook was tasked with retrieving one of the Road Poneglyphs that Big Mom had. His plan didn't go as planned and this led to Big Mom confronting him. Instead of running away, Brook decided to stand up to the Emperor. This fight was short in which Brook was defeated but won the hearts of the fans. At the same time, he also managed to steal her poneglyphs and became the MVP of the arc.

Nine red scabbards
Kozuki Oden's saviors wanted two things in Wano – to defeat Kaido and bring peace to Wano again. They got their chance on the roof of Onigashima where they fought a battle for the ages and even Kaido was shocked by the power they had. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Kaido defeated them effortlessly and they put their utmost trust in Luffy to achieve their dream.

Crocodile

Yonko Challenged: Whitebeard
Crocodile was the first opponent to defeat Luffy multiple times. He was the main villain of the Alabasta arc and later a recurring character seen during the Summit War of Marineford. There, it was revealed that Crocodile once fought against Whitebeard and was completely defeated by him. This left a deep wound that he never forgot, and he still held a grudge against Yonka at the time of his death.

Lucci returned to the series during the Egghead Island arc where he faced Luffy again. This was the rematch everyone wanted to see.
