The first game from Embark Studios, a live action shooter Finalturns off PlayStation 4 come Wednesday March 18th. Sony's PlayStation 4 is one of the most popular video game consoles ever made, so it's no surprise that it continues to receive support a staggering 13 years after its original launch. There are many games with live services that can be played on PS4, although this may change in the coming months.
Reports suggest that various live service games are ending their PS4 versions this year. In addition, Sony itself has stated that it will stop favoring PS4 games on PS Plus this year as well. It's clear that the PS4's time is running out. Another game will soon have a PS4 version, another step towards making the console obsolete in the face of the PlayStation 5 and other modern gaming hardware.
It's the end of an era for PS4
The PlayStation 4 is almost 12 years old at this point, and it's now the end of an era for the home console.
Embark Studios confirmed this late last year Final on PS4 will end on March 18, 2026 with the start of Season 10. From this point on, anyone who wants to play will be Final it will have to do it on another platform, be it PC, PS5 or Xbox. Fortunately, Final progress and purchases are saved to the Embark ID, so PS4 players switching to a new console won't have to start from scratch. It's still inconvenient, but given that the PlayStation 5 is six years old at this point, it's not really surprising that PS4 games are being shut down.
When does The Finals shut down on PS4?
For those who may not know Finalit was the first release from Embark Studios, best known today as the company behind the extremely popular extraction shooter. ARC Raiders. Final released in 2023 and was quite popular at first, mainly due to its over-the-top presentation and focus on destructible environments. Interest in Final has declined significantly since its peak, but the game still receives regular content updates and has a dedicated fan base. No doubt PS4 players will be sad Final it will be shut down, but at least the game will still live on elsewhere.
PlayStation 6 is just around the corner
Final it won't be the last live service PS4 game to be shut down. The fact is that games with live services that started on the PS4 and still support the console are being held back by outdated hardware. With that said, it's highly likely that many other live service titles will drop their PS4 versions over the next few years.
We're almost here two console generations before the PS4 at this point. The latest reports suggest that the Sony PlayStation 6 console will be released in 2027 or 2028. If these reports are accurate, the PS4 will soon become even more outdated, and you really can't blame game developers for wanting to move on and focus on the latest hardware.
However, for now, all PS4 gamers have to worry about is Final shutdown March 18. Anyone interested in playing Final on PS4, they'll want to make sure they get their final games before March 18, when Season 10 begins. And all the PS4 players who want to keep playing Final after that date it will be necessary to switch to another platform.
