It's spoiler season! With Riftbound's next set, Unleashed, due out internationally in May (April in China), cards from the beginning are starting to appear on social media.
Ahead of Riot's big dev blog today, several cards from Unleashed have surfaced on Chinese social media. This includes two new champion legends, Pyke and Master Yi.
Pyke is everyone's (least) favorite color combination, Chaos and Fury (purple/red). According to the rough translation of the card, you can pay one energy and tap the card to return a friendly unit on the battlefield to your hand to send an exhausted gold token.
This is thematic for Pyke in League of Legends as he generates gold for allies through his ultimate and “hooks” people, similar to how they hook cards back into your hand.
As for Master Yi – the second version of this legend following his Origins appearance – he is once again Calm and Body (Green/Orange). Yi's card mentions a new mechanic: experience. Details on how to gain experience are not yet known, but at level 6, all of Yi's units have +1 power, and at level 11, all of his units are ready.
The Riftbound Unleashed spoiler season has officially begun
Other cards were also destroyed, including Kha'Zix, an orange 5 power, 1 energy unit with 5 power that appears to gain 1 experience when it conquers or holds. Then when he attacks, you can choose to spend 3 experience to deal X damage (where X is his strength) to a unit on the same battlefield.
Another champion unit, Lillia, is a green 5 power, 4 power unit with a Tank that gives Tank token units. Her card text reads: “Whenever you play a token unit, give me +1 this turn.”
There are also some cards that interact with “tribal” mechanics, i.e. cards that target specific groupings of units (poro, dragon, and so on). Hunting Snow Wolf is a yellow 4 energy, 1 drive unit with 6 power. The text on her card reads: “As an additional fee to play with me, you must kill a bird, cat, dog, or poro unit. You may play with me on this battlefield (even if you have no other unit on this battlefield).”
This is one of the cards that will benefit from an official translation when we receive the international version, as the direct translation from Chinese leaves several aspects of the card unclear.
The latest leaked unit is the Blue Buff Golem, a unit that junglers around the world will be very familiar with. This creature is a blue, 4 energy, 1 drive unit with 4 power with Shield 2, which reads “Hold the effects here trigger twice. When paused, add 1 power at the start of your initial phase.”
Finally, we also saw two purple gears. Cursed Sarcophagus is a 4 energy, 1 power with text that reads: “When you play this card, discard all units from your discard pile. You can then tap it to play the unit that was banished (while paying the card cost).”
This is an interesting technology that can disrupt deck plans that rely on cycling cards from the basket or need cards in the basket to achieve something like decks that use Vi and/or Rhasa the Sunderer.
Another equipment, the Bounty List, is a 1-power card in which the player must declare a tribal designation, such as poro, dragon, and so on. Clicking on this gear will then reduce the strength of each unit with this designation by two per turn.
That's the extent of this morning's spoilers, but there's sure to be more to come as we get closer to the release of Unleashed. Riot's upcoming dev blog will likely demystify some of the new mechanics we've seen.
