The timing of the rumored Sagrada Família LEGO model is no coincidence
The real landmark on which the famous LEGO set is based is the Roman Catholic Basilica in Barcelona and the most famous work of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Located in the city's grid-based Eixample district, the Sagrada Família combines elements of Gothic Revival and Catalan modernism. Construction began in 1882, and Gaudí took over the project the following year, transforming it into a highly symbolic, nature-inspired design defined by towering towers, a sculptural facade and intricate geometric shapes.
More than 140 years later, the church remains unfinished but active. The basilica says construction is still ongoing and expects the main structure to be completed in 2026, while recent reports indicate that the central tower of Jesus Christ has reached its full exterior height, with interior and finishing work still remaining. The rumored Lego could thus be based on a relatively finished model of the basilica, commemorating the end of almost 150 years of construction.

The 21065 Sagrada Família is expected to surpass the current largest LEGO set, the 31203 World Map, by 365 pieces. It's also not the only massive model the Danish toymaker is set to debut this year; according to several earlier reports, the still-unannounced 11377 Minas Tirith will rank among the top 10 biggest LEGO sets ever when it launches on June 1st. It is expected to be the sixth, but the rumored arrival of the 21065 Sagrada Família would push it into seventh place among the company's largest brick-built models to date.
