Diablo 4's most thematically appropriate unique is practically worthless in Season 12

Star of Diablo 4's Season of Slaughter is the iconic Butcher, which players can transform into and hunt down their enemies to collect fresh meat as part of Season 12's limited-time activities. When playing as a butcher v Diablo 4 Season 12 is the definition of power fantasy for a long time Diablo fans, not all Butcher's kit is worth using. Especially, Diablo 4 Players were able to obtain the Butcher Cleaver as a unique weapon well before the start of Season of Slaughter, but those waiting for the perfect time to use it may want to rethink their building plans in Season 12.

In addition to playing as a butcher, Diablo 4 Season 12 emphasizes defeat in other ways, such as bringing back the Killstreak mechanic Diablo 3 and the introduction of new Bloodied items that gain bonuses based on the player's Killstreak. With a season so focused on killing enemies as quickly as possible, Diablo 4 The best Tier 12 builds focus on maximizing Killstreaks. However, The Butcher's Cleaver is a unique that should never be used, even in the worst builds, despite how well suited it seems for Season of Slaughter.

The butcher's cleaver is not worth using in Diablo 4 even during slaughter season

An iconic part of the butcher's tool kit is his massive cleaver, which Diablo the enemy uses to tear fresh flesh from their victims. The Butcher's Cleaver was available in some form in almost every game in the Diablo series, even though it's called The Butcher's Apprentice v Diablo 2 and is only transmog in Diablo 3. As iconic as this weapon is, the Butcher Cleaver is one of the worst uniques Diablo 4to the point where it should only really be used when players are leveling up their character and be phased out completely after they reach endgame.

The Butcher's Cleaver stats in Diablo 4

butcher-diablo-4-2
Butcher from Diablo 4 holding weapons of his choice

  • +175% damage to wounded enemies

  • +7-9% Attack Speed

  • +12.5-18% Movement Speed

  • +62.5-85% physical damage

  • +16-25% critical strike chance against dreaded enemies

  • Unique Affix: Your attacks will critically attack wounded enemies. Elite kills fear and slow nearby enemies by 65-95% for 2 seconds.

On its own, The Butcher's Cleaver looks like a decent one-handed ax with a focus on boosting damage on wounded and feared enemies. This also gives the player a faster attack and movement speed, in addition to increased physical damage to make the player feel more like they are when they have actually turned into a butcher. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving and the Butcher's Cleaver is much less impressive in practice than it looks on paper.

Why the Butcher's Cleaver is useless in Diablo 4 Season 12

As for settlement and Diablo 4 Season 12 builds go, The Butcher's Cleaver is a decent enough pick and can be used by every class except Spiritborn. It's nice to have bonus attack speed and damage to wounded and dreaded enemies when trying to level a character into an endgame fit. However, as a generic unique weapon, it doesn't offer any build-specific utility that makes it worth using Diablo 4game over.

In most cases, players will want to use unique or legendary weapons that offer some class-specific support for their builds. For example, The Butcher's Cleaver doesn't offer a Crackling Energy Sorcerer anything that makes it a better choice than a Unique like Orisvane, which gives the class access to a whole host of Enchantment abilities. So while The Butcher's Cleaver could be a decent addition to more general leveling Diablo 4it's too generic to act as a supporting element on an endgame build designed to optimize how a player deals with specific endgame content like Lair Bosses or The Pit of the Artificer.
