Overwatch Co-creator Jeff Kaplan shares his thoughts on the greatest video game ever made, and it's a game that may come as a surprise to fans of Blizzard's heroic shooter: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Released as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch in 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a huge success, earning widespread critical praise and surpassing all previous ones Zelda game. Breath of the Wild reworked many elements of the series' formula, shaking things up drastically with a huge open world to explore while still retaining many of the classic elements.
Nine years after its release, the game is still attracting new audiences. Why Breath of the Wild is Kaplan's pick for the best game of all time
In an appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Overwatch co-creator Jeff Kaplan called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild “best” in the segment talking about the best video games ever made. Kaplan states in his reflection that “the world is a toy and everything works the way you wished and hoped it would.” It's going to be hard for Nintendo to top it Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdombut people like Kaplan once quoted Ocarina of Time as one of the greatest games of all time. In fact, Kaplan expressed shock that Nintendo was able to top the 1998 N64 game. However, Kaplan clearly has a lot of faith in Nintendo as a developer, stating that “if it's from Nintendo, it's going to be great”.

The future of the franchise after Tears of the Kingdom is the question on many Nintendo fans' minds this year as 2026 is the 40th. The Legend of Zelda.
