GameStop offers extra credit on PS5 Pro

What initially started as some unverified rumors specific to the European market has now become a global reality as Sony has officially announced that its PlayStation 5 console will see another price increase. These worldwide price increases, which will take effect on April 2nd, will affect the base PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as the PlayStation Portal handheld.

The Pro is the console likely to be most affected by the new prices, which are attributed to “pressures in the global economic environment,” coming in at $899.99 before tax in the US. It was $699.99 at launch, with the price increase representing a $200 increase in less than two years.

Now, players around the world are trying to see if the upgrade is feasible in less than four days. Video game retailer GameStop is trying to make the decision easier by encouraging PS5 Pro upgrades ahead of a planned price increase.

GameStop is a lot of things, but you might want to take advantage of the deals

Taking to social media, GameStop revealed that it's offering nationwide “extra credit” on all hardware. The offer, which runs until April 4, is meant to help games “beat the switch and upgrade for less.”

Then, in a follow-up post, the retailer noted that gamers can get a PS5 Pro for “just” $349 after trading in their base PS5 console, which is eligible for up to $400 in credit.

Currently, the retail prices for “Pro” memberships for PS5 consoles are as follows:

  • Original PS5 with disc drive: $346.50

  • PS5 Original Digital Edition: $330

  • PS5 Slim Edition with disc drive: $376.75

  • PS5 Slim Digital Edition: $357.50

That's before what appears to be an extra $25 bonus for the consoles, bringing the Slim Edition with the disc drive to the $400 mark. Depending on when someone bought the console, this could be the equivalent of getting your money back.

As with any GameStop store, it depends on the condition of the console, along with the need to have all the components that came in the box (controller, HDMI cable, power cable, console, console feet) available at the time of the exchange. Still, if all works out, there may not be a better deal for a long time, or ever.
