Covering video game news on April 1st is a minefield. Chances are, if a studio reveals something too good – or too weird – to be true, then it's probably an April Fool's joke. That's why when I first saw Konami's James Sunderland body pillow, I laughed and kept scrolling. However, it turned out to be no joke. The Silent Hill 2 body pillow is real
Judging by the product description of the body pillow, its creators planned to reveal it to the world on April 1st and knew many would assume it was a joke. “Yes, this is real. Yes, you can pre-order it. No, we won't explain it,” the description reads. “April? species. Emotionally devastating? Absolutely.”
The pillow is five feet long and features Silent Hill 2 protagonist James Sunderland, designed to look like he's lying down and resting, with his arm resting above his head. The perfect pose to snuggle into if you've always wanted to hug your very own James Sunderland, although you'll have to be quick. Pre-orders are open now, but they won't be around for long.
If you want a Silent Hill body pillow, you can order one now through OKS GEAR for $69.99. Sure, that's a lot of money for a pillow, but show me where you can buy a James Sunderland body pillow for less? Exactly, that's what I thought. Order one by April 7, 2026, though, because then the body pillows will be pulled from the store and gone forever.
James has a history with pillows
It's quite amusing (is amusing the right word?) that James was chosen for pillow duty that goes beyond the mere existence of a Silent Hill 2 body pillow being a fun item. This character's relationship with pillows is incredibly dark because (spoilers for a very old game, I assume most reading this have already played this one) James suffocates his wife Mary with a pillow at the end of the Silent Hill sequel.
Silent Hill has been experiencing something of a renaissance lately. It started with the incredibly well-received remake of Silent Hill 2, the momentum continued with the brand new Silent Hill entry and hopefully Silent Hill: Townfall will make it a hat trick. This renewed interest in the series could explain why we're getting so much quirky merchandise.
