How to unlock the secret side mission in Whispering Glacier in Borderlands 4

The side missions are the main part Borderlands 4and you'll encounter plenty of them in both the base game and the DLC-specific Whispering Glacier area. Terrible things lurk beneath and above the surface of this frigid wasteland, so there will be plenty of people in need of help.

Sometimes that help isn't even related to terrifying nightmares and voices driving people crazy; it's just about a young woman looking for her missing grandfather. But you won't find this mission anywhere. Time to grab that dynamite and blast the icy waters of Whispering Glacier to figurative pieces.

How to unlock ice fishing side mission

Ice fishing is a secret side mission exclusively included in the Ellie and Vault of the Damned DLCsand requires some easy puzzle solving before you can access it, as well as completing at least the first campaign mission from the DLC, On Icebound Shores Abandoned.

First, search fishing spots in the Crooked Teeth area. They always will near shallow water and have at least one chair and a bucket of dynamite with them and can be found in several places.

  • Three are located at a glacier with an Edge of the World fast travel point on it.

  • One sits along the edge of the glacier south of the Edge of the World fast travel point and opposite a small frozen pond.

When you find any of these points, keep looking splashing water with shiny particles out in the ocean in plain sight. Grab the dynamite from buckets and throw it into the splashing water cause a small explosion that reveals some loot aa special Echo Log.

If you mess up the dynamite throw, it will reappear in a bucket nearby after a few seconds, so don't worry about being locked out access to the mission.

Use the Grapple to either grab the Echo Log in the air or from the water's edge if it falls into the ocean, and it does will automatically play the message from someone named Grumpy.

You will have to repeat this process on three more points of sparkling water near. It may take a few tries and non-glitter splashes to get the ones you need to form, but once found all four Echo Logscheck the Speakeasy to find a new side mission.

Where to find Ol' Thrash

C4sh watches Echo complete a scan where in Borderlands 4 the echo recording would be on a pile of dead fish.

In Speakeasy, go to one of the tables behind the bar to find Marina and talk to her. Head back to the Whispering Glacier across Ellie's Garage fast travel point and take your vehicle over canyon to the westthen to the ocean at the edge of the map.

Go inside a round hut behind a piece of ice and pick up Echo Log is sitting on top of a pile of dead fish and blood. Listen to it and then take it dynamite from a bucket nearby and throw it on cracked ice behind his hut which is surrounded by threshers before exploding on you.

Ol' Thrash makes an appearance out of the hole and you will have to fight him. He is a a tough Thresher with two health barsbut he acts similar to other Thresher bosses like Ice Maw so just watch out for his close range strikesseismic waves and small threshers that will spawn regularly during the fight and he won't be a problem.

Killing Ol' Thrash will give you some loot and more special quest item, Gumpy's Hat. Pick it up and Marina will call you, signaling the end of the quest, which it will be net you some EXP and cash.

While it doesn't provide much in the way of rewards, the main thing that completing this quest does is count towards achievement/trophy Looking for a job on top of the worldwhich it requires of you complete all side missions in Whispering Glacier region and is required if you are plan for 100% DLC.
