Some of the Silent HillThe more interesting supporting characters were killed off too early, but even some of the franchise's leading names were overshadowed by James Sunderland and Heather Mason, which include Silent Hillmost admired protagonists. Regardless of how long they've been around, whether they're no longer alive or simply completely forgotten by tradition, these are the most underrated. Silent Hill characters.
7 Douglas Cartland
Sympathetic grieving father and all-around good guy
Although Heather and Claudia steal the spotlight Silent Hill 3there's no denying how much of an impact Douglas Cartland left on the community, even though he wasn't much more than an accessory to Heather. He's got all the makings of a great character—a tragic backstory, questionable alliances, and a good-hearted nature—but he's not focused enough on Silent Hill 3 to let his potential shine.
He has one of the saddest quotes in the entire game and clearly thinks very little of himself, especially when he blames himself for his son's death, but Douglas is a fascinating and complex individual with much more beneath the surface than meets the eye. His few scenes with Heather are among the game's cutest treats, and it's possible he'll survive the normal ending, but Douglas doesn't get nearly enough screen time to really be appreciated.

When James meets him, Eddie is at the end of the ridicule, so he is determined to kill the next person who laughs at him. The 8 best quotes from Silent Hill 2 Remake
In the already bizarre, disturbing foggy town of Silent Hill, these even weirder quotes from the Silent Hill 2 Remake are a must remember.
Eddie is underappreciated for the same reasons as Angela, as they are both tortured souls who found themselves insanity during their time in Silent Hill. Eddie is the living embodiment of self-loathing and is overly hard on himself, qualities that make him very relatable and therefore give him value as another character gone too soon. He deserved a much better ending than what fate suggested.
5 Eileen Galvin
A well-rounded and interactive companion
- Released
- September 7, 2004
- Developers
- Team Quiet
Silent Hill has no shortage of tortured characters, many of whom essentially come off as plot enforcers, but Eileen actually has plenty of redeeming qualities and a unique role to play in Henry's story. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same cruel AI as Sheva Resident Evil 5so that could be one of the reasons why her character is off-putting at times. However, Eileen was specifically developed to interact with the environment and assist James in reading Walt's inscriptions, giving her a more central role than someone like Douglas.

The best introduction to a Silent Hill game, rated
The Silent Hill games have some of the most memorable intros in gaming, so we're going to rank them from the bottom and work our way up to the best.
It's hard not to feel sorry for Eileen, which gives her an edge as she earns sympathy and certainly helps carry Silent Hill 4but in the grand scheme of things, she's overlooked despite being a well-rounded character and one of the great, quirky characters in the entire series.
4 Claudia Wolf
Effective and versatile villainy
It's not often that female characters in horror games get the chance to steal the show, but characters like Claudia Wolf walked so characters like Lady Dimitrescu could run. IN Silent Hill 3Claudia is mostly a looming presence at first, mentioned in passing by Douglas, who was hired to bring Heather (Alessa) to her. He later takes on a more prominent role, especially in the final confrontation with Heather during the “birth” of God. Although she is the main antagonist, many of Claudia's actions are sympathetic due to her complicated and harrowing past.
Claudia wanted the best for humanity, even though her methods can be seen as cruel and unfair, adding layers to the character that should be downright despised. She is overshadowed by a lot of monster enemies Silent Hilllike Pyramid Head, but the overarching threat of Claudia v Silent Hill 3 it ties the story together and gives Heather someone to fight with.
3 Angela Orosco
A misunderstood and misinterpreted victim
Angela is one of the biggest parts Silent Hill 2which is quite a complex and impressive figure. It's no small feat for Angela to have the most heartbreaking story of all in a series about heartbreaking stories.
Silent Hill is filled with characters who are products of their environment, like Angela, who suffered terrible emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her father and brother. Her story places her character in reality for her believability, unfortunately, and she's the series' main poster child for sadness and depravity. She can be strong and bossy at times, but Angela is definitely one of the best parts Silent Hill 2 and her presence even reveals a lot about James, which is very telling.
2 Jasper Gein
A captivating figure even in death
Like Eddie and Angela, Jasper is next Silent Hill a secondary character whose troubled home life leads him to the titular city. Jasper has had a ridiculously short trip Silent Hill 4 after meeting Henry, who offers him chocolate milk in exchange for a spade in a surprisingly wholesome scene. The next time James encounters Jasper, he sets him on fire and succumbs to horrendous burns. Jasper returns as Victim 17 in the forest world, where Henry is able to meet him and fight him with the sword of obedience.
He was never heard from again after that, which is a real shame because even characters like Eddie and Angela played bigger roles in the film. Silent Hill 2. Above all, Jasper is good fun to be around. He's one of those carefree likable characters that is instantly stolen, something that happens all too often in horror games. Even Jasper's death scene is underrated. There's no over-the-top dramatic music, just the crackling of fire and his screams of pure agony. It's a real shame that he didn't have a bigger role, but he's still hard to forget.
1 Henry Townshend
Main character unfairly overshadowed
Although he is one of Silent HillAlong with Murphy Pendleton, Henry is one of the most underrated protagonists. When someone thinks Silent Hilltheir minds instinctively go to James Sunderland, who has earned a reputation as a kind of franchise mascot alongside the Pyramid Head. However, Henry is the most believable protagonist and therefore can connect with the audience in a way that others cannot. It is an ordinary everyone who goes through hell and survives in one of them Silent Hillmost challenging games, which is commendable in itself. He represents voyeurism in its most basic form as he acts as an avatar for players to experience the world of Silent Hill through a clear lens, unbiased in comparison to protagonists like James, Heather and Harry who have more unique motivations.
Standing apart from the others, he is an ordinary individual with no special drive, so he flies blindly through Silent Hill and behaves as many would. Silent Hill 4 has always been underrated compared to the original trilogy, so the same can be said for Henry, who never got the love he deserves for being the main character of one of the more uniquely addictive games in the series.
