IN Pokemon world, one of the most common types to find is the Normal type. These Pokémon can be found in grasslands, such as Hoenn's Skitty, or near trees, such as the bird Pokémon Pidgey. It's common for many new trainers to have at least one normal type Pokemon like Bidoof or Starly in their roster. This was also the case with Ash Ketchum, who caught a wild Pidgeott at the beginning of his journey.
Since meeting the Bird Pokemon, Ash has caught countless other Pokemon, including the normal type. From the powerful Fire/Dark-type Incineroar to the speedy Grass-type Sceptile, Ash has amassed some amazing Pokémon for his overall roster. However, although the number is very small, Ash has also encountered other normal type Pokemon. The Pokemon on this list vary, including the sleepy but imposing Snorlax to the fast and competitive Swellow.

Ash caught a giant horde of Tauros in Kanto
Professor Oak takes care of every Tauros in his lab
The original Tauros variety, often considered the male counterpart of the all-female Miltank, originates from the Kanto region. In Paldea, the Wild Bull Pokémon is instead a Fighting-type, and can be Water- or Fire-type depending on the breed. These Pokemon are known for being hot-headed, which often leads to the Wild Bull Pokemon's tendency to charge suddenly. If the entire Tauros horde gets angry, then there is sure to be a stampede. Ash has a group of thirty Taureans in his roster who spend time together under the guidance of Professor Oak.
In the episode “The Legend of Dratini” (which was not broadcast anywhere outside of Asia), Ash visits the Safari Zone. Hoping to catch a lot of different Pokemon, Ash instead finds himself only catching different Tauro that he accidentally catches in the Safari Balls he gets. Although Tauros are usually seen as a group, Ash chose one lucky Tauro when he needed help with the Orange League. The lucky Tauros proved to be a useful ally in the contest, even defeating the opponent's Venusaur.

Unfezant was the first Pokemon Ash caught in Unova
Since then, she has grown into a loyal and useful warrior
In the Unova area, the regional bird Unfezant varies in appearance depending on the sex. While the male Unfezant has plumage on his head that looks like a mask, the female does not, although she is usually better at flying. The first Pokémon Ash catches in the Unova region happens to be a feral female Pidove, who later evolves into Tranquill while dispatching a horde of Venipede. Later, in the episode “An Amazing Aerial Battle”, while battling the Gym Leader Pokémon Skyla, Tranquill evolved into Unfezant.
As seen in the beginning, Unfezant is a peaceful Pokémon, and when threatened, it usually prefers to run away rather than fight. However, when it comes to training and fighting, he is a very hard worker. In fact, she has been seen helping other Pokémon train, as was the case with Archeops revived by Professor Juniper and Fennel. Like her trainer, Unfezant is self-confident and has a strong sense of justice, as well as a tendency to try to help out however needed.

Staraptor absolutely loves to fight
The normal/flying type has a fierce and fast fighting style
On your first trips to the Sinnoh region, you can be sure to see a few Starlies lurking in the tall grass. The Starling Pokémon is relatively weak when fighting alone, so many Starlings tend to gather together to form a powerful horde. After evolving, Starly becomes Staravia and her combat power increases. Staravie's evolved form, Staraptor, is even more powerful and even gained a Mega Evolution in the Mega Dimension DLC pro Pokemon Legends: ZA.
The first Pokemon Ash caught in the Sinnoh region, Staraptor first debuted as a wild Starly, often assisting Ash with his searches. However, after evolving, Staravia became a much more competitive Pokémon with a fierce love of battle. In fact, the Normal/Flying type would even be angry if it wasn't chosen to fight, a trait that disappeared once it evolved into Staraptor. By the time he was fully evolved, he excelled at using moves like Brave Bird and Aerial Ace, and was very proud of the power he had gained since his time as Starly.

Swellow is a very impressive fighter
Pokémon Swallow is even resistant to Electric-type attacks
Ash's Swellow, who first appeared as a Taillow, has always proven to be a very determined fighter. Although Tiny Swallow is a Normal/Fighting type Pokemon and thus weak to Electric and Rock type moves, it still loved a tough battle and wouldn't be afraid to face such attacks. In fact, Ash knew this and allowed Taillow to take part in tough fights, especially after he evolved into Swellow. One such example is a battle against Tate and two Rock/Psychic Pokemon, Swellow would win the battle.
Swellow's unusual resistance to Electric-type moves would also allow him to play a key role in creating Thunder Armor, an anime-exclusive move. During Ash's battle with Tate and Liza, Swellow and Pikachu teamed up to defeat the two powerful Pokémon. As such, Pikachu used Thunder to envelop himself and Swellow in a golden glow that increased their speed and attack. With this unique idea, the two were able to secure Ash's victory.

Ash's Snorlax has a legendary appetite
Snorlax has amazing stamina and a useful Movepool
Snorlax is a very popular Pokémon and one of the original 151 creatures introduced in Generation I. Similar to Munchlax, Snorlax loves to eat. However, while Munchlax tends to be more upbeat, Snorlax often dozes when not eating. Snorlax's large size allows it to have abilities such as Immunity (which makes it immune to poison), Thick Fat (which gives it great resistance to ice and fire moves), and even Gluttony (which allows it to eat berries faster than normal). As seen in the anime, Snorlax are also great swimmers.
During his time on the Orange Islands, Ash encountered a wild Snorlax that lived on the Grapefruit Islands, where his constant eating threatened the islands. After catching the normal type, Snorlax became a regular sight during Ash's later adventures. Although Snorlax may be lazy and voracious, he is nevertheless a powerful fighter and loyal friend. In addition to being very strong and very agile, Snorlax can use useful moves such as Body Slam, Ice Punch, and the legendary Normal-type Hyper Beam move that was often seen in Pokemon Champions.

Pidgeot is one of Ash's oldest and most loyal friends
Pidgeot later left the team for a while to protect the other bird Pokemon.
Pidgey is the first known regional bird Pokémon that first appeared in the Kanto region. It was also one of the Pokémon that Ash had hoped to catch at the very beginning of his journey, but that didn't happen. Instead, Ash ended up catching Pidgeotto, the evolved form of Pidgey. Unlike some of Ash's other Pokémon, Pidgeotto has always proven willing to fight Ash and has never argued with him. During his time with Ash, the Normal/Flying type proved to be a great fighter, often using moves like Wing Attack or Gust.
As time went on, Pidgeotto was not used as often and lost its place as the main fighting Pokemon to allies like Bulbasaur and Squirtle. However, Pidgeotto later evolved into Pidgeot when he fought the violent Fearow who was harassing the Pidgey horde. Hoping to take care of the other bird Pokemon, Pidgeot left Ash's list for a long time. After winning the Masters Eight tournament at the end of the original anime, Pidgeot returns to save Team Rocket's Ash and Pikachu. Pidgeot happily accepted Ash's offer to rejoin his team, as the Pidgey he had watched over for so long had since evolved.

Ash's Noctowl was the driving force in his Johto roster
Noctowl is known for being Ash's only known Shiny Pokemon
Just like in the games, there are rare pokemon in the anime. One of the most famous examples of a shiny Pokémon in the anime is Metagross owned by Steven Stone, a powerful steel/psychic type capable of Megaevolution. However, before the debut of Shiny Mega Metagross, fans were first introduced to Ash's Shiny Noctowl. Once the Pokemon that Wiseman tried to catch using traps, Ash was able to catch a normal/flying type instead using traditional battle methods, thanks to Pikachu.
Like many of Ash's other bird Pokemon, Noctowl proved to be a great scout. Noctowl is shown to have an unusually powerful hypnosis move, even being able to create illusions to scare or calm other Pokémon. During his time in the Johto region, Noctowl proved to be a smart and compassionate Pokémon with a strong sense of justice as his trainer. Noctowl would later reunite with his trainer in the Sinnoh region, where he would once again use his psychic-type powers during the Lily of the Valley Conference.
