Expedition 33 finished the season awarding a record 500 wins

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Rampages in Game of the Year. It was obvious that the game would become an all-time classic once the reviews started rolling in, but I don't think even the most optimistic fan could have expected the utter dominance it demonstrated during awards season.

By January 7th, Clair Obscuro was breathing down Elden Ring's neck, vying for its “Best Game of the Year Ever” crown with 345, and by January 21st, it had won another 100 awards, eclipsing FromSoftware's 435 wins in 2022. Now, with the BTA Awards, the Games season is coming to a close. Obscur: Expedition 33 is the final result and has achieved over 500 Game of the Year wins.

Clair Obscur's last game of the year: Expedition 33 Tally is monstrous

Things didn't look good for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the BAFTA Games Awards. It failed to win in the first seven categories in which it was nominated. He missed out on Artistic Achievement for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Best Music for Ghost of Yotei and Narrative for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Then the tide turned.

It won the last three awards for which it was nominated: Best Debut Play, Featured Actress (Jennifer English as Maelle), and Best Play. That brings his final tally to 513, according to awards search engine Resetera.

Despite having one award revoked due to the use of generative AI early in the game's development, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's staggering total gives her 78 more wins than Elden Ring.

This awards season also saw Sandfall Interactive's hit RPG become only the second game to win all five major Game of the Year awards, taking home the top prize at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, The DICE Awards, GDC Awards and BAFTA Games Awards. Baldur's Gate 3 was the first to achieve this feat in 2023.

Of course, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also won the most elusive award of all, TheGamer's Game of the Year 2025, with a record number of votes separating first and second place. Our reviewer, Ryan Thompson-Bamsey, said: “Sandfall Interactive's debut is a triumph. Everything about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is either a fresh reboot that soothes the soul of a traditionalist or an exciting, daring leap into new territory, resulting in a work of art that pulled me in and didn't want to let go.”
