Resident Evil Requiem adds a new DLC minigame

If you need another reason to revisit Resident Evil Requiem, then Capcom has just the thing for you, as the developer has teased a new minigame mode aptly titled “Leon Must Die Forever.”

It's free and available right now if you've already beaten Requiem's main campaign.

Capcom previously teased the existence of the new game mode, with its director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa urging fans to ensure they complete the game by Golden Week.

True to his word, the regime went down.

The official trailer description on YouTube is as follows:

Unlocked by completing the story, this optional mini-game mode challenges you to complete a series of stages as Leon while unlocking exclusive power-ups. The fast-paced action is different from the main story mode and is loaded with replay value. Can you make it to the end alive and defeat the boss within the time limit?

There are several difficulty levels, including an extremely high difficulty mode for only the most confident players. In keeping with the headline “you will die forever”…

As noted by Vice in its write-up, players will work their way through 20 levels before reaching the final boss battle against Victor. It's almost roguelike in its approach, as death is permanent and the weapons and abilities you have access to are completely random. The difficulty also increases the further you get.

The final puzzle in Resident Evil Requiem is a video game mystery worth enjoying

Players have finally reached the end of Resident Evil Requiem's final puzzle.

Interestingly, this wouldn't be the first time Capcom has added a “Must Die” post launch mode.

Resident Evil 7: BioHazard had a similar mode called “Ethan Must Die”, where players must navigate a house with a random supply of weapons and items, limited space, and dozens of traps and Molded before facing off against Marguerite.

Similarly, Village of Shadows in Resident Evil Village made an already difficult enough title that much more difficult.

In other words, Capcom just loves to inflict pain and see who among us is brave and skilled enough to handle the toughest Resident Evil experiences.

Even though “Leon Must Die Forever” has been added, there is still plenty of content for Requiem in the works, including actual DLC. For now, we have something free and fun to tide us over.
