Haunted Chocolatier is still in active development by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, who has finally shared how much time he's actually spending working on the game. As an indirect follow-up to the incredibly successful Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier has some big expectations to live up to as the seminal farming RPG Barone has redefined its niche and become the go-to for anyone even remotely interested in playing a similar game.
It is essential to Stardew Valley is still receiving content updates, which has necessarily led to delays for Haunted Chocolatier. ConcernedApe is absolutely unconcerned about “finishing” its first mainstream version, so it's constantly moving forward with occasional releases of new content and features. However, as he explained in a recent interview, he has faced some new challenges since then Haunted Chocolatier was first announced.

Stardew Valley creator confirms exciting details about Haunted Chocolatier
After revealing that fans won't be able to play Haunted Chocolatier until at least 2030, ConcernedApe teases the size of the game.
ConcernedApe works at Haunted Chocolatier 5 days a week
Speaking to Game Informer (via GamesRadar) in a recent interview, Eric Barone said that he is now working on Haunted Chocolatier five days a week. The remaining two days go to Stardew Valley and its endless number of updates. Barone didn't give any updates on the progress for a while until he confirmed it earlier this year Haunted Chocolatier it is still in production as some feared. He now explained that “[making Haunted Chocolatier is] much harder than when I was doing Stardew Valley.” He said he was a “nobody” then, while now he gets a lot of fan mail and “dealers keep asking me for this or that.” The net development of the game was slowed down by all the extra costs, in other words.

“I need to disappear, go to the cabin and work without distractions,” he said. “Honestly, it's very difficult and disruptive Stardew Valley and have people send me fan mail. I appreciate that people love the game so much, but it's true that it's hard to juggle all that stuff and be able to fully lock in.” Last big status update Haunted Chocolatier came just before Stardew Valley10th Anniversary, explaining that ConcernedApe was struggling with switching back and forth between the two games. The additional overhead has only increased since then, judging by a recent interview, and it's not helping game production.
Even if Haunted Chocolatier was announced over five years ago, it seems almost obvious that it won't be coming out anytime soon. The good news is that Stardew Valley it still has undiscovered secrets in tow, shocking as it may seem. With all the additional post-launch updates ConcernedApe and his team have released, it's a good idea to play the game straight away from scratch even for those who haven't done so since it first launched in 2016. Haunted Chocolatier it's meant to be bigger, better and more complex, so it can be hard to “settle” for a good old farming game with that in mind.

It's not like there's a shortage of things to do Stardew Valley. With around 50-60 hours of gameplay to complete the main story focused on the community hub, Stardew ValleyOptional content easily doubles or even triples that number, depending on how deeply the player wishes to interact with the game's systems. Not to mention it's a fully open-ended game that can be played endlessly. Haunted Chocolatier it's likely to fall into the same ballpark, except it's apparently focused on chocolate and candy making instead of farming. Everything else is still up in the air, though, and ConcernedApe hasn't given a clue as to when the game can be expected to be released.
