PlayStation 5 users looking to get a premium third-party driver with tons of features are in luck, as the Scuf Omega driver can now be purchased through Scuf's website. Although the Scuf Omega range of controllers costs more than twice as much as the standard PS5 DualSense controller, the new controller comes in several variants for users to choose from.
As one of the leading third-party controller brands, Scuf has built a reputation for producing high-quality gaming pads for all current-generation platforms, including the PS5. Scuf controllers are also regularly used by professional gamers and eSports teams around the world. Although expensive compared to standard first-party drivers, Scuf drivers offer users more customization options and features. Some of Scuf's past bestsellers include the Scuf Reflex and Scuf Invision controllers.
Scuf Omega offers PS5 and PC users a premium, customizable experience
Although the DualSense controller has seen some significant improvements through firmware updates, Sony and Scuf have teamed up to offer users an officially licensed premium controller option. The Scuf Omega is now available worldwide starting at $219 via the Scuf website. Along with the basic PS5 controller button layout that gamers have come to expect, the Scuf Omega has 11 additional inputs that users can customize via the Scuf mobile app. These new inputs include four rear paddle buttons labeled P1 through P2, two side buttons located near the R1 and L1 buttons, and five G-Keys near the controller's 3.5mm headphone jack. Three of the G-Keys are already pre-marked for audio control, though they can be customized using the Scuf app.
One of the defining features of the Scuf Omega driver is the inclusion of thumbs that utilize Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR) technology. In short, TMR thumbsticks are considered an upgrade to Hall Effect thumbsticks because they allow for more precise inputs and consume less power than the latter. The Scuf Omega includes three pairs of removable thumbsticks out of the box, allowing users to customize the left and right levers independently. The Scuf Omega also uses Omron mechanical switches that allow for quick trigger responses. The L2 and R2 buttons can also be customized into instant triggers, allowing users to select the correct response for the game they are playing. Scuf Omega also offers a polling rate of 1,000 Hz on PC in both wired and wireless modes, and up to 250 Hz on PS5.
The Scuf Omega also comes with a USB-C cable, some replaceable side button pads, a wireless USB dongle and a carrying case. Plus, all orders of $75 or more on Scuf's website include free shipping. Along with PS5 compatibility, Scuf Omega will also work on Windows and macOS devices via USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Although the price of the Scuf Omega may be higher than other controllers on the market, PC gamers looking to play titles made for controllers can consider the Scuf Omega as a viable option.

While the Scuf Omega doesn't use haptic feedback or controller vibration, the additional inputs and customization options can make up for it. It remains to be seen how successful Scuf Omega will be on all supported platforms.
