New promotion for free weekend Steamnot to be confused with Steam's Free-to-Keep promotion, it's live now and allows players to try four games without paying a single dime until the end of the promotion period (May 18 at 10am PT/1pm ET). Each game is free to play from today until May 18th, at the time of writing, but is unplayable after that. However, if any of these games tickle your fancy, they'll all be discounted until either May 21st or May 28th. The cheapest discount is 35%, but during the extended period of the promotion it increases to 75%.
This is worth noting GreedFall: The Dying World entered the free weekend event on May 13th, ahead of these games, and is also available as part of the same promotion, just a day shorter. It ends on May 17th, but it's also on sale. If that doesn't appeal to Steam users, then they have four other options, and if some of those four options don't appeal, then GreedFall: The Dying World is a solid fantasy RPG worth checking out for free.

The backend of Steam's Free-to-Keep promotion reveals six games that will be made available for free in the coming weeks/months.

Open-World Survival Game V Rising is now free on Steam
In Growing knows what makes survival games addictive, but also what makes them frustrating, as it strips it down and focuses on the best parts of the genre. Players step into the shoes of a newly awakened vampire and immediately give the game more character than most open world survival games. As players progress, they must hunt villagers for blood, avoid sunlight, and build their own castles. The combat is fast, the bosses are difficult, and everything ties into the successful series of sandbox systems. It's a game that manages to feel atmospheric, brutal and strangely satisfying all at once.

Co-Op Survival Game Misery is now free on Steam
Poverty leans heavily on an oppressive atmosphere, throwing players into a bleak survival experience where simply staying alive feels like an achievement. Unlike many post-apocalyptic games, where “post-apocalyptic” is the bigger picture but is otherwise mundane moment-to-moment, it focuses on ensuring the opposite. The world is meant to feel rough by the minute, where resources are scarce, exploration is deadly, and I mean, there's some misery involved in everything. There's a rawness to the experience that helps sell the suspense, especially for players who like survival games that favor immersion and desperation over power fantasies.
