Time really it flies when you barely get any updates on the game because somehow it's been a whole year around the sun since we last saw Kingdom Hearts 4.
If you're a fan of Kingdom Hearts, then I probably don't need to remind you how dry the last few years have been. In 2022, the future of the series seemed incredibly exciting with the reveal of Kingdom Hearts 4 and Missing Link, but things are going downhill as Square Enix promised “magic in the making.”
Not only was Missing Link canceled after many delays and a lot of hype because of what it would do to the Kingdom Hearts story, but we've also heard next to nothing about KH4. The biggest update we've had to the game in over four years was a select few screenshots that Square Enix released to appease the community, which were released a full year ago today.
Kingdom Hearts 4's last major update was a full year ago
365 days with nothing but an annual fee to keep us going
As pointed out by Twitter user thegamersjoint, today, May 15, marks exactly one year since Square Enix randomly decided to post seven (har har) Kingdom Hearts 4 screenshots on its Twitter page. For those who don't remember, these screenshots include the battle between Sora and Heartless, confirmation that Mickey is playable, and updated looks at Sora and Strelitzia.

Don't worry, Square Enix hasn't forgotten about Kingdom Hearts
I can't handle it, just getting a new high score.
While nothing really new was revealed with these Kingdom Hearts 4 screenshots, it was like an ocean at the time considering the drought we were in. Although some accused the slides of being just damage control due to the cancellation of Missing Link, they were greatly appreciated.
And now, 365 days later, it's still the last time we've had any concrete Kingdom Hearts 4 updates, as there haven't been any new trailers or screenshots in all that time. That's despite the post promising more information when “the time is right,” which you'd think would be a full year from now.
It wasn't all bad news, though, as Nomura not only said a while back that development was progressing smoothly, but also seemed to promise that news would come next year for the series' 25th anniversary. While today is a bit of a depressing reminder of how long it really has been since Kingdom Hearts 4's last update, we can all continue to hope that this will change soon.
