Sonic The Hedgehog 4 has finished filming

As if there weren't enough things to get excited about in the world of video games, Jeff Fowler only added to the hype by revealing that Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the next film in the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action series, has finished filming.

The director, who is responsible for three previous feature films, revealed on social media that the film is now heading into post-production.

But that's not all, Fowler decided to take a photo alongside Metal Sonic, the main antagonist of this adventure. As if there was any doubt, it looks like Metal Sonic will have quite the successful transition to live action, joining Amy, Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles, and Tails.

“On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we made the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can't wait to share it,” Fowler wrote.

As it is, none of the three previous Sonic the Hedgehog movies were critical darlings (47, 47, 56, respectively on Metacritic), but they were loved by fans and were hits at the box office. The latest movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is the highest rated movie by user score, with 8.4 on 705 ratings.

If Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is truly “the best”, then it will have to beat the 8.4 score.

Unfortunately, it will be a while before we find out, as the film isn't due out until March 19, 2027, so just under a year away.

It's another stellar cast for Sonic The Hedgehog 4

Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Keanu Reeves (Shadow), Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) will be Kristin Bell as Amy. If the end of the last movie was any indication, Amy will have a huge role.

Of course, it's not a Sonic the Hedgehog movie without Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, even though he was rumored to be retiring earlier, it looks like the comedy maestro will be returning in a very familiar role. There was always some kind of announcement in the movies in case he wasn't coming back, but as far as we know, he's back.

Finally, in a little news that should put a smile on the face of all Sonic fans, all three movies are in Letterboxd's Top 5 of all video game movies. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 came in at #3, followed by the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie at #4 and then Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at #5.

Before them? Super Mario Bros. Movie and surprisingly Detective Pikachu too.
