Perhaps more than any other FromSoftware game, the mage build option in Elden Ring is probably one of the most forgiving entry points compared to other Soulslike titles. It allows you to cast powerful spells from a distance, which often makes short work of you on enemies before they lay a hand on you.
All of this power has its downsides, as armor often offers little to no protection when exploring the land between. While not the most powerful or impressive outfit in the Elden Ring, many of the game's mage armor sets offer you a number of powerful perks and stat boosts that are worth pursuing.

Full Moon Queen Set
- Location: Purchased from Enio at the Round Table after defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon.
This decently powerful set of light armor can be obtained after defeating the Legend boss 
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon at the Ray Lucario Academy. The set is worn by the Queen herself, and with her increased intelligence, you can see why.

As with some of the best bosses in Elden Ring, this fight is no cakewalk and has a particularly challenging second phase. After pulling it out, you can purchase the set from Enia for a steep 31,000 runes in the Round Table Hold.

Alberich's set
- Location: Main Hall in Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Although it is a bit build specific, 
Alberich's set is undoubtedly the armor of choice for those who choose to use Aberrant sorcies.
Each piece of armor provides a welcome six percent buff to all Aberrant sorcerers, of which there are only two: Briars of Sin and Briars of Punishment. They look very impressive, although unfortunately quite difficult to pull out in the middle of a match. But hey, the hat is appropriately pointy – check it out!

Lazuli Wizard Set

- Lazuli Glintstone Crown from a crystal crab at Ray Lucario's Academy.
- Lazuli Rob from any Wizards of Lazuli at Ray Lucario's Academy.
- Wizard Manchettes + Witch leggings from Glintstone and Twin Witchers at Ray Lucario's Academy.
The 
Lazuli Wizard Set can be found in Ray Lucario's academy and can be obtained by killing the various enemies roaming the grounds and interiors of the magical school.
Finding every piece of armor can be time consuming, but for an Int/Dex focused build, it's more than worth it. There are four pieces in the set, but the one you're probably looking for is the Lazuli Glintstone Crown.
The Lazuli wizard set pumps three free levels into Intelligence and Dexterity and is one of the best options for nimble wizards roaming the Lands Between.

Carian Knight Armor Set
- Location: Near the Site of Grace Cuckoo Church in Ray Lucaria Academy.
Magic-users looking for a bit more protection than the ripped fabrics typically afforded by wizard clothing should look no further than 
Carian Knight Set.
Much heavier than what a typical magus would be used to, it is one of the few medium weight armors suitable for magic users. It offers a lot of resistance to elemental and physical damage, allowing for a lot more up close and personal combat encounters. With all its opulent shiny gems and chains, it's also a great fashion piece for would-be magic swords.
A more balanced approach to blunt and spell-based attacks also makes the Carian Knight Armor Set suitable for mid-game builds of other species.

High priest set
- Location: Manus Metyr Cathedral; defeat Ymir.
Despite not including any additional attribute bonuses, 
High priest set it earns its place among the best mage armor the Elden Ring has to offer, purely on drops.
This is easily one of the most amazing sets of armor that will give your Tarnished a royal look unlike any other.
Once you defeat Ymir after his quest and get a set of armor, you'll have some of the most amazing magical armor the Elden Ring can provide; it can even be modified to change the appearance slightly.

Errant Sorcerer Set
- Location: Hermit Village in Mount Gelmir
Another wizard set, another 'Burger King' style helmet. Errant Sorcerer armor can be found on two corpses exploring the Hermit Village on Mount Gelmir and is a great choice for hybrid magic users.
One of the most attractive features of the armor is the two-point bonus to Intelligence and Stamina it provides 
Hierodas Glintstone Crown. Those two extra points in Endurance allow you to experiment and wear slightly heavier armor in the game, at the cost of a little FP.

Spellblade set
- Location: Dropped by Rogier the Wizard in Hold at the Round Table.
When it comes to fashion and role-playing, they'll be hard to beat 
Spellblade set. A discarded Sorcerer Rogier in Hold at the Round Table after Ranni's very lengthy questline gives you a nice bonus (two percent apiece) to all weapons that deal magic damage.
This goes particularly well with the powerful Ashes of War z 
Sword of Night and Flame and 
Moon veil.
Rogier himself sells a lot of useful Glintstone Ashes of War that gain their benefits right from the start, so be sure to clear his inventory before his eternal rest. Gone but not forgotten.

Battlemage set
- Location: Dropped by battle mages in East/West Windmill Pasture.
Battlemage set 
Haim Glintstone's crown it gives a good boost to both Intelligence and Strength (at the cost of some of that precious FP), allowing for more build variety and weapon experimentation.
Despite what its name might suggest, the armor itself is pretty flimsy and light, giving you the chance to try out some heavier intelligence weapons that you might otherwise miss out on. All four set pieces can be obtained by defeating (you guessed it) the Battlemage in the East and West windmill pastures.

Rakshasha set
- Location: Get this armor set as a drop for defeating Rakhasa in the East Nameless Mausoleum.
While this isn't strictly a set of armor designed for mages, there's no denying that it is 
Rakshasa set is one of the best new armor sets in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Of course, the armor doesn't visually indicate the magic set, but it does provide it a great bonus to your magic.
Rakshasa set increases all damage by ten percent (2.5 percent per piece), but also increases damage taken. If you're looking to run a mage/perfumer hybrid build, this armor set pairs well with perfume bottle weapons, which are some of the best ranged weapons in the Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Raya Lucarian wizard set

increases intelligence by three and decreases HP by ten percent, and can be found behind an illusory wall near the academy's classroom. -
The
Witch's Glintstone Crown
is rewarded at the end of Sellena's quest line and increases Intelligence and Arcane by three, but decreases Stamina by 18 percent. -
By far the best of the bunch
Twinsage Glintstone Crown
, which gives a huge six levels to intelligence, for the price of a nine percent reduction in Stamina and HP, can be found by defeating the crystal ctab near the cuckoo church instead of grace.
From early to mid game, this trade is more than worth the extra power.
