Fortnite is back on the iOS App Store in multiple regions after Epic Games said its long legal battle with Apple is in the “final battle” phase. The Fortnite The developer said the game returned to the App Store out of confidence that Apple would need to be more transparent about the fees it charges for its store.
Apple and Epic Games have been in a long legal dispute since 2020, when Apple withdrew Fortnite from the App Store. The dispute arose over Epic allowing external payment options Fortnite which would reduce App Store fees. Epic said Apple's fees violated US antitrust laws. Despite its best efforts, Apple was subsequently ordered to allow access to third-party app stores in select regions. Although Apple still found ways to get rid of third-party payment providers and app stores, Apple's fee structure was found in contempt by the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Fortnite “Final Battle” with Apple approaches
Although Fortnite has been available on Apple devices in the US for nearly a year, Epic Games has said it's ready to make a comeback Fortnite to multiple Apple devices worldwide. Epic Games confirmed this in a May 19 blog post Fortnite is once again available in multiple territories for players to download on their iOS devices. Epic added that a “final battle” with Apple was at hand after six years of legal exchanges between the two corporations. Epic's decision to return the iOS version of Fortnite to multiple nations comes just weeks after US Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan denied Apple's request to stay in contempt of the Ninth Circuit's ruling. After Kagan's denial, Apple said, “Regulators around the world are watching this case to determine what commission rate Apple can charge for covered purchases in huge markets outside the United States.

Epic Games said there is growing momentum in Japan, the UK and the European Union to hold Apple accountable for the fees it charges third-party developers. However, Epic said so Fortnite has not returned to the Australian App Store at the time of writing. While Epic claimed a legal victory over Apple, the company said Apple continued to collect fees for third-party apps despite being told not to. Epic therefore said it had to wait for a court ruling to force Apple to comply with Australian rulings against it. It remains to be seen when Australian users will be able to download and install again Fortnite on the iOS App Store.
Return from Fortnite to multiple iOS devices around the world came amid a busy period for Epic Games. As of this writing Fortnite is hosting a crossover event with Blizzard's Overwatch.
