Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 34 was officially released earlier today on May 20, 2026 at Shueisha's V-jump Issue 7. This new chapter marked the beginning of a new arc and primarily dealt with the aftermath of the battle against Mamushi in Konoha. Due to the considerable level of threat Konoha faced, several casualties were expected, with Sarada Uchiha and Inojin Yamanaka at the top of the list. fortunately Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 34 made sure they both managed to survive the battle with little consequence.
However, the chapter still took a very dark turn towards the very end, when an innocent character named Bug that had been built up for years officially died in front of protagonist Boruto Uzumaki, setting the stage for a very dark turn in the new arc that is now officially underway.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 officially killed an innocent character named Bug
In the present day, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex sees the Shinobi of the world take on the Shinju, who evolved from the Ten-Tails and were created using the DNA of various individuals. With the fall of Shinju Matsuri and Shinju Ryu in the Land of Wind arc, Mamushi was set up as the next main villain in the story. Mamushi attacked Konoha in the final Boruto arc with the goal of devouring Eida. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 33, which was officially released on April 20, 2026, Shinju Mamushi met his end through the efforts of Inojin Yamanaka, who used Mind-body Swap to channel Killing Intent towards Daemon, leading to his eventual demise through the power of Reflection.
You don't have to explain. I've already braced myself for what needs to be done. — Inojin Yamanaka, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes, Chapter #33
This month's Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34, released in V-Jump Issue 7, saw Boruto Uzumaki with the Thorn Soul Bulb of Mamushi. Using these thorn soul bulbs, the individual that was used as the DNA source for Shinju can finally be freed from his tree prison. Boruto intended to take this Thorn Soul Bulb from Bug and free him from the Ten-Tails dimension. Immediately after he got there, he was ambushed by Coda, who tried to kill him. Thanks to Boruto's incredible strength and the newly awakened power of the Byakugan, he was able to avoid this dark fate. However, just as the Code disappeared, the Thorn Soul Bulb began to disintegrate.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 officially confirms to us readers that Thorn Soul Bulbs can indeed rot. If not immediately taken to the tree to free the individual, the Thorn Soul bulb will dissipate and the character will instantly die, a shockingly dark twist. As such, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 officially marks the death of Bug, one of Kara's subservient members, who was forcibly held there and slave-like for most of his life. Despite being mistreated by almost every member of Kara and eventually being used as the source material to create Mamushi, Bug was now officially dead and disintegrated in front of Boruto Uzumaki, with the protagonist unable to do anything to save him.
Boruto part 2 keeps getting darker with more character deaths
Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes is already significantly darker than the previous series. There have already been quite a few character deaths in Two Blue Vortex, and some more have been set up for the future of the story. Bug's Death in Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 34 came as a shock to many fans as most of them expected him to be saved at the end, especially since he has no villainous actions in the story.
“Don't worry. He wasn't a good guy. Just let it burn into your memory…what it looks like when a soul burns out.” — Kashin Koji Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter #34
Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto clearly have no intention of making this a light story. This was shown again in the Land of the Wind arc, where Ikemoto and Kishimoto killed off a very important supporting character in Yodo. Yoda's death was even more surprising than Bug's because, unlike him, she was a new generation figure and just a child. That a child character of the next generation was killed off in a very painful way really came as a shock to most fans of the story and it also shows that Boruto it remains a dark shonen while moving forward.
Even scarier, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex there are several characters with death flags on their heads, including the main characters. Based on the recent record of Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, either of them could end up next.
Boruto: The New Arc of Two Blue Vortex sets up bigger death flags for the Konoha Shinobi
Boruto: Two Blue VortexesChapter 34, killed off Bug while also setting up massive death flags for the main characters. Among them are Code, Sarada Uchiha, Boruto Uzumaki and Himawari. Code is a character that can end up dying at any time in Two Blue Vortex, especially since Mikio Ikemoto himself confirmed that he wasn't supposed to survive that long. The fact that he is now central to the story of the new arc, which officially began on May 20, 2026, shows that he faces a significant threat moving forward.
“Code runs away after deciding he has little chance of winning against you. That's why he's after Sarada. He's taking her to Shinju as a bargaining chip because he knows she can be used as bait to lure you out.” — Kashin Koji sets Sarada and Boruto's Death Banners in Boruto Arc in Two Blue Vortexes Chapter #34
At the same time, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 also confirmed that Code intends to kidnap Sarada Uchiha and then use her as bait to bring in Boruto and kill him. Boruto Uzumaki, despite being the protagonist, also wears large death flags, just like Sarada Uchiha. Meanwhile, Himawari was confirmed to be a potential victim of Jura in the Mamushi arc. This fate has yet to change, but Kashin Koji has already seen it with his Prescience ability.
Let's change that and create a future where Eida and Himawari don't have to die. — Kashin Koji, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes, Chapter #27
There is a good chance that they will be saved by changing the future one way or another. However, as has been seen over the course of the last few chapters, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes he doesn't shy away from being a dark shonen and killing off his characters. As such, none of the characters are really safe moving forward, and that's something we have to keep in mind. The next chapters of the manga will be really significant for all the major death flag characters. We absolutely can't wait to see how things unfold once Shinju Hidari and Code get rolling next month on June 20th, 2026.
