First introduced in One piece chapter 138 of the June 5, 2000 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump #27, Hito Hito no Mi is one of the most incredible Devil Fruits that belongs to the Zoan class. This devil spawn made its debut in Tony Tony Chopper's Doctor Straw Pirates, but over the years its versatility and subtypes have only grown in importance. This fruit gained a newfound importance with the main revelation in One piece Chapter 1044 Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which is the real name of Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi and the God Fruit.
In the final saga, specifically the climax of the Elbaf Arc, Hito Hito no Mi became even more important, Eiichiro Oda officially prepared a new type of this devil fruit to be released in the final segment of the story. This new fruit is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, which is a fruit that bears the name of a god and the ability to bring down immense rains and floods.
One Piece Chapter 1182 officially establishes Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza
One piece Chapter 1182 officially dropped in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #24 on May 10, 2026, and the chapter was significant in terms of the overarching lore surrounding the various types of Hito Hito no Mi. When Eiichiro Oda first expanded the Hito Hito no Mi subtypes with Monkey D. Luffy's Nika fruit in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #17 on March 28, 2022, I was mesmerized by the idea of the possibilities created with it. After the reveal, looking at One Piece Chapter 287 which was released on August 11, 2003 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump #37-38, I and many other fans immediately saw the potential for many more Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruits that grant the power of gods.
“Sun God, Rain God, Forest God, Earth God, please take the blood of this woman and save our village from disaster. — Shandian Elder in One Piece Chapter 287
Finally, Eiichiro Oda revived this possibility in the final saga with the latest revelation of Rain God Zaza in chapter 1182 of this series. Zaza is a very powerful godly being with a power that hardly anyone in the world can match. His debut came via St. Killingham's MMA, all of which are now powered by the Akuma no Mi Omen of Nero Imu ability. When Killingham was able to summon the rain god Zaza, Eiichiro Oda revealed to us a very important piece of lore surrounding this god from a bygone era.
“Appearing to the Rhythm of Rain Prayers… Rain God Zaza!” —Saint Killingham, One Piece Chapter 1182
In One Piece 1182, Oda confirmed that all Sky Dragons fear the Rain God Zaza because he rains down on those in the lower world and brings torrential floods. Since the idea of sky dragons is to exist above the clouds themselves, they never have to worry about rain or other natural disasters beyond their control. The existence of the real rain god Zaza is a huge threat to them.
More importantly, the stories of the rain god Zaza told among those who exist in Marijoa imply that this God was once greatly feared, on par with the Sun God Nika. This is confirmed to us again in chapter 1182. This also means that somewhere in the world of Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza is sleeping and waiting for the right person to come along and eat him.
“We were born in a place so high up, it's above all the rain clouds. Water pouring down from the sky? It's a mysterious terror! After the people of D and Nik, it was the most common scarecrow they warned us about…that in the lower world there is a monster called the Rain God that pours water on your head!” —Saint Killingham, One Piece Chapter 1182
As with Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, the Zaza fruit has its own will and the name of God. All Zoan Devil Fruits only go to the person they are a perfect fit for. The Nika fruit specifically avoided the hands of the world government because it was not intended for them. This fruit controlled its own destiny and reached Monkey D.
Luffy who ended up eating it about 13 years ago. Similarly, the Zaza fruit has eluded all grip over the years and is currently waiting to be eaten by the right one. The identity of this person has not been revealed to us yet, and I wonder who Oda will choose to be the user of this Devil Fruit later on.

One Piece Triggers Battle of 4 Gods in Elbaph Arc Climax
The climax of One Piece's Elbaph arc is finally pitting the 4 mighty gods in the final saga's biggest all-out battle yet.
Zaza has powers to bring down torrential rains and cause floods
As for the powers of the rain god Zaza, Eiichiro Oda tells us directly what this God can do. The rain god Zaza is one of the most overpowered gods that can exist in the world of One Piece, as he brings down torrential rainfall and can cause massive floods. In One Piece Chapter 1183, which was officially released on May 24, 2026, in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #26, the Rain God Zaza was seen raining a huge amount of rain on the Western Village of Elbaf. This part of Elbaf was already drowning in the previous chapter, but chapter 1183 gave fans a small glimpse of how bad the condition really was, with the vast majority already underwater.
“Sommers, I messed up! I summoned the wrong thing! What am I afraid of… I'm overzealous!” —Saint Killingham, One Piece Chapter 1182
Furthermore, it should be remembered that at the end of the day, Killingham's version of Rain God Zaza is just an MMA entity, created by the power of Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Kirin. The power of the real rain god Zaza will probably be several times greater, which tells me that the real rain god can easily flood the entire land and control the rains.

Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza is the biggest weakness of Devil Fruit users
Introducing the new Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, Eiichiro Oda has officially established the archenemy of all Devil Fruit users in One Piece. Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza can bring down an immense amount of rain, and as seen in chapters 1182 and 1183, can instantly fill the terrain with an immense amount of water. Due to the sheer size of this God and the amount of water it rains down, it can basically create enough water to completely submerge Devil Fruit users.
According to Oda himself, when Devil Fruit users are submerged over half of their bodies, they become incredibly weak and have trouble using their abilities as well, regardless of where the water comes from. Even bath water is enough to weaken Devil Fruit users if they are completely submerged in it. As such, Rain God Zaza has the power to completely nullify the Devil Fruit's abilities with the amount of water that will be brought down and flood the battlefield.
“Let's deal with the bathroom matters of the 'powerful.'” When a person eats a devil fruit, the sea rejects that person and their bodies become unable to swim. “Sea” here includes rivers, ponds, baths… anything that contains a pool of water. You see, from the perspective of the earth, everything is “sea.” So when a person powers into such places as expected, their power will naturally use them. it doesn't do much, if their whole bodies are immersed in the “sea”, if it is only half of their bodies, their arms and legs, the effect is less. — Eiichiro Oda, One Piece SBS
Looking at it on an even deeper level, I can see why the Sky Dragons fear Zaza as much as they do. This devil fruit has enough power to even nullify Nero Imu's devil fruit abilities. Imu's Akuma no Mi is overpowered, but if he's flooded with water, even he can't use his abilities. As such, it is obvious to me and many others that this Devil Fruit has the potential to be one of the strongest in the entire One Piece world that Oda created.
Its user has not yet been revealed and it is likely that no one has even eaten this Devil Fruit yet. Either way, Hito Hito no Mi Model: Zaza will play a significant role in the further development of the story, especially as the Great War approaches, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
