When is Return Of The Ancients coming out for PoE 2?

Path of Exile 2 The Return of the Ancients update was released today, featuring a complete overhaul of the endgame systems, including new storylines, more world atlas routing, and a few new ways to get there – including a built-in build tracker for those who'd rather follow the pros. PoE2 usually has no preload, so the update will be available for download via Steam at launch.

What is the Return of the Ancients update about?

Path of Exile 2's latest major update, Return of the Ancients, launches today, bringing what developers Grinding Gear Games are describing as the biggest end-game overhaul yet. The Return of the Ancients update is the huge ending update I've been waiting for. I've written a long article here about everything that's on the way in the patch, and I'm most excited about the better sense of direction the new atlas should provide for the final game.

Several quality-of-life improvements are also included, with campaign progression being streamlined with improved environmental guidelines and shorter mission layouts.

In short, major bosses are now accessible through dedicated quests rather than relying on key farming, while previous League mechanics such as Delirium, Breach, Ritual and Expedition have been integrated into Atlas with their own unique stories and rewards. Even if it's not proper narrative content, as a new venture, I'm still interested in following these stories to their conclusions.

The update also introduces the Runes of Aldur league, which features a new rune crafting system focused on activating Remnants and combines over 100 new runes for deep character customization. A new defensive mechanic called Runic Ward acts as a secondary source of survivability and opens up additional build options across all armor types.

Grinding Gear Games also added an in-game build import system that allows players to directly load community-made builds into the client without relying on external tools.
