There is no definite answer as to whether the original Baldur's Gate is also being redone, but it looks likely. It is believed that both can be worked on at the same time, but this is not confirmed. Baldur's Gate 2 is a direct sequel to the first game with a returning playable character, so it wouldn't make much sense to decommission them or completely ignore the original title. However, with that in mind, there is currently no known time frame for when these games might come out. However, it is possible that the announcement will be made during the upcoming Summer Game Fest or other summer reveals.

Minsc In Baldur's Gate 3 and Baldur's Gate 2

Another question is how the gameplay of the remakes will be. The first two Baldur's Gate the games used an isometric perspective and used real-time combat suspension. Baldur's Gate 3 was significantly different as combat was completely turn-based and players could rotate the camera. However, Baldur's Gate 3 it was developed with Larian Studios' proprietary Divinity Engine 4.0, and there is no indication that Larian has any involvement in the remakes. It's possible that the remade games may use something like the Unreal Engine, but that's speculation for now.

It will probably take a very long time for players to see a Baldur's Gate 4 game, and without Larian at the helm, there's no telling what it will be like. A return to the extremely well-received early games, combined with an upgraded game engine and graphics, is likely to be an exciting adventure for newcomers and long-time fans alike.
