A LEGO Fan builds an awesome Caterpie that's better than some official Pokemon sets

Handy LEGO fan can build their own MOC (My Own Creation) Caterpie z Pokemon series completely from scratch, without using a specific set, and looks better than most of the newly released and leaked LEGOs Pokemon sets. A collaboration between LEGO and Pokemon it certainly didn't go unnoticed, as the first few sets that came out on Pokémon Day sold out immediately on pre-order, and some even tried to sell them for much more on third-party sites. There will be more LEGO Pokemon sets are coming this year, including several Smart Play sets.

Although the collaboration proved successful, LEGO Pokemon the 2026 sets may not be for everyone due to the many Smart Play sets shown in the leaks, with Smart Bricks increasing the price of any set they're in, and the fact that some of the Pokemon probably don't look very good. Some fans were very unhappy with the Pikachu and Poke Ball set at launch, saying that the series mascot didn't look right, and some of the upcoming sets this summer may suffer from the same problem. Enter fan builds that aren't limited by pieces or smart bricks, and fans have some compelling ones to build.

Building kit LEGO Pokemon Caterpie MOC

Reddit user and YouTube content creator hachiroku24 shared a post on the LEGO subreddit to share his own LEGO Pokemon build for Caterpie, which seems to be on the smaller side, but still has incredible detail on both the Pokemon itself and the base used for it. The MOC build shows a cute, wide-eyed Caterpie on what appear to be tree roots, surrounded by flowers and grass.

This isn't the first time for hachiroku24, who has a YouTube channel full of incredible MOC builds and has shared quite a few on Reddit over time. Among them is Magnemite, the same size as official LEGO Pokemon An Eevee set and even a Hornet build Hollow Knight: Silksong. This Caterpie is particularly well-crafted, and not only is it a faithful recreation of the iconic Gen 1 Bug-type Pokemon, but it's proof that LEGO Pokemon the sets may be more polished and less boxy than what has been shown so far.

The pokemon in hachiroku24's build is looking up, reminiscent of an old anime scene where Ash's Caterpie and Pikachu are looking at the moon, with the former tearing up and dreaming of flying one day. It eventually works out and it and Ash are separated with a tearful goodbye after Butterfree falls in love and wants to live freely with her partner. The Pokemon the anime finally reunited Ash and Butterfree 25 years later and created an equally emotional scene.

Unfortunately, although many fans of hachiroku24's work requested instructions on Rebrickable to recreate the build, the expert builder did not share them. Hachiroku24 actually said in response that they are currently focusing on finishing their physics degree, which means they are taking a few years off from LEGO and YouTube related content. This may sting for those who really wanted to remake this beautiful Caterpie, but hopefully an original kit for this Pokemon will be released in the near future. Lots of LEGOs Pokemon leaks for 2026 don't include one yet, but both Caterpie and Butterfree are unlikely to be ignored in the long run.
