N Plus Infinity Times Two revealed during Day Of The Devs

Metanet Software, the developers of the iconic N games, have announced N Plus Infinity Times Two, a new multiplayer entry in the series set for release in 2027.

If, like me, you were lucky enough to grow up during the golden age of Xbox Live Arcade, then you're no doubt familiar with the N series, which started life as a flash game but really made a name for itself with N+. After the masocore platformer from 2008 became an XBLA classic, we got a sequel, N++, in 2015 that took the series' formula even further.

Now that a full decade has passed since the last proper N game (which actually recently received a tenth anniversary update), everyone has been wondering what developer Metanet Software will do next. While unsurprisingly sticking with N, the next game in the series takes a very different but very exciting multiplayer direction.

Another N game is N Plus Infinity Times Two and it goes all multiplayer

Don't worry, if you want to keep at least one of your friendships alive, there are co-op modes

The multiplayer match is played in N Plus Infinity Times Two.

During today's Day of the Devs show, Metanet Software officially announced its next game, N Plus Infinity Times Two, which is the first game in the series to be truly multiplayer-focused, and is slated for release in 2027. Previous N games have had multiplayer components that make good use of its precision platforming, but Infinity Times it Two goes for the first time ever.

Infinity Times Two will feature five online and local game modes, including Trials and Co-op (which are reworked from previous games) and a new version of Racing called Rocket Murder Time. As the name suggests, races in this mode end with the player being able to fire a rocket launcher at whoever is unfortunate enough to be behind them.

Two new game modes are also planned for Infinity, including One-Up, where players must outdo each other in knockout competitions, and Team Tag, where Ninjas need to outrun and outrun Hunters to see who can survive the longest. And of course, all of this is wrapped in N's signature style and thunderous soundtrack. If it wasn't, it would be a crime.

I was able to attend a hands-off preview of Infinity before its official reveal, and it's really shaping up very nicely. Even as mostly single player when it comes to N, multiplayer does it makes perfect sense for the series, especially if given time and attention. I'm particularly excited about Team Tag because it looks like the best use of a perfectly exciting N game and a sure fire way to destroy some friendships.

You may notice that the N Plus Infinity Times Two has a slightly different naming convention with a lack of symbols, and this is a very purposeful choice. Metanet told us that finding N+ and N++ in digital stores was too difficult, so having some actual words in the title makes it a little easier.
