Boruto welcomes his new overpowered dojutsu stronger than the Rinnegan

Dojutsu was always a big part Naruto series and have played a significant role in the story since their official introduction with the Sharingan in Naruto Chapter #12 on January 8, 2000, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump #2. Since then, these eyes have only grown in importance, and at the end of the Naruto series, Masashi Kishimoto introduced a bunch of them, with one being stronger than the other.

This means that the Rinnegan, which was said to be the divine eye that first belonged to Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the sage of the six paths, was the most powerful dojutsu. In addition to Hagoromo, other characters have also awakened this power, such as Madara Uchiha and Sasuke Uchiha, the deuteragonist of the series. IN Boruto: Two Blue VortexesThe Rinnegan was dethroned from its highest place by none other than Sarada Uchiha's Mangekyo Sharingan ability, Ohirume, which is by far one of the most broken eye abilities in the entire series.

The Mangekyo Sharingan is one of the most powerful forms of the eye that was first introduced in Naruto Chapter #142 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #46 dated October 28, 2002. This eye is an evolved form of the Sharingan that awakens due to the trauma of the death of a close loved one. The first person to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan in the recent history of the Naruto series was none other than Madara Uchiha and his brother Izuna Uchiha also awakened this power along with him.

“He was the man who stood as one of Konohagakure's fingers and was the first to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan!” — Itachi Uchiha o Madara Uchiha, Duel of Brothers Arc

After them, Itachi Uchiha was shown using this immense power in Naruto series and Sasuke Uchiha woke her up as well. Each Mangekyo Sharingan grants the user a unique ability. In most cases, each eye of the Mangekyo Sharingan grants a specific ability and ultimate ability known as Susanoo.

Recently in Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 20, officially released in V-Jump Issue 5 on March 20, 2025, saw Sarada Uchiha unleash the power of her Mangekyo Sharingan for the first time. This Mangekyo ability is known as Ohirume. Simply put, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan ability allows her to create up to four powerful black holes. The size and power of these black holes can be controlled by Sarada at will. In addition, Sarada can also freely control what the black hole's gravity attracts and what is expelled. The force of gravity is such that even Otsutsuki-level individuals like Shinju cannot resist it and are immediately pulled in and crushed.

“The barriers are gone. The sand is gathering in one place. What's going on? Are those eyes… Mangekyo Sharingan?” — Mitsuki as he watches Sarada use her Mangekyo Sharingan for the first time, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter #20

IN Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 21, which was released on April 20, 2026, in V-Jump Issue #6, Sarada Uchiha used this power to completely destroy Ryu in battle. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 31, Sarada Uchiha once again harnessed the power of Ohirume and crushed about twenty Mamushi clones at once, demonstrating the incredible crushing power of this Dojutsu. Compared to Sasuke Uchiha's Rinnegan, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan is much better. Sasuke's Rinnegan ability, called Amenotejikara, allows him to switch places with anything or anyone, or have two things switch places with each other to a certain extent and multiple times. This Dojutsu is powerful, but is more of an add-on ability that allows Sasuke to surprise his enemies; however, he lacks strength compared to Ohirume, making Mangekyo Sarada stronger.

Boruto: Why Sarada's Susanoo Will Be The Strongest Explained

Sarada will have a powerful Susanoo. If anything, it might be the strongest of the Naruto and Boruto series.

The Boruto series heavily nerfed the power of the Rinnegan

There is a very important distinction to make when comparing Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan to the Rinnegan. Simply put, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan is very powerful, but it can't compare to the original Rinnegan from the Naruto series. In Naruto, the Rinnegan had many overpowering abilities referred to as the Six Paths Powers.

These powers made individuals almost divine figures who could essentially rule over life and death. As explained by Nagato Uzumaki himself in Naruto Chapter 449, published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #27 on June 15, 2009. Against the original Rinnegan, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan would have absolutely no chance, given that the Rinnegan itself can simply absorb any Ninjume.

However, it should be noted that in the Boruto series, the Rinnegan was heavily nerfed by Mikio Ikemoto. The original Six Paths Powers of the Rinnegan are hardly used. As such, Sasuke Uchiha never uses the power of the Six Paths, which makes him God-like and even opens up avenues to abilities such as immortality and reincarnation, as he himself stated in Naruto's chapter #696. Due to the nerfed nature of the Rinnegan, which practically only allows Sasuke to use two specific techniques, which are the space-time ninjutsu that opens portals and the Amenotejikara, this eye is officially inferior to Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan.

“I started with the Sharingan, but now I also have the Rinnegan. Reincarnation, immortality, it has many possibilities.” — Sasuke Uchiha Explains the Godly Nature of the Rinnegan, Naruto Chapter #696

Interestingly, Sarada Uchiha's evolution is not quite complete in the Boruto series. Right now, Sarada is dealing with the consequences of overusing the Mangekyo Sharingan. Ohirume's power is comparable to that of the Rinnegan, and due to this overpowered nature of her eyes, blindness will hit her harder than ever before, as confirmed by Sakura Haruno in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 on May 20, 2026. Sarada will have to figure out a way around the blindness that comes with Manman.

“As I thought, the prescription doesn't seem right. Your eyesight has gotten noticeably worse than before. It's a risk that inevitably follows the Mangekyō Sharingan. The more you use it, the more your eyesight deteriorates… It depends on the nature of the technique and how it's used… but either way; If you keep using it like this, you'll eventually go completely blind.” — Sakura Haruno states that Sarada's eyesight is fading, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter #34

In addition, there are other abilities of Saradin's Mangekyo Sharingan that have yet to be revealed. As with most Mangekyo, each eye offers a unique ability. In Sarada's case, only one ability has been shown so far, meaning the next power of her Mangekyo Sharingan will be shown later in the series. What's more, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan's ultimate ability, Susanoo, has yet to be revealed in the series. This power will make its debut in the series at some point later, and when equipped with the incredibly powerful Ohirume ability, this Susanoo has the potential to surpass all Rinnegan powers that exist in the world, including Naruto's, if used properly.

Kakashi Hatake, who wielded the dual Mangekyo Sharingan in the Fourth Great Ninja War, was even able to overpower Kaguya, proving that even with just the Mangekyo Sharingan, the Rinnegan can essentially be overcome. Sarada can do something similar with her eye, provided Ikemoto gets the character right, and that's something we're looking forward to in the future.
