Brand New Day has one Peter Parker's insomnia problem already solved

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, and tickets are finally on sale. Pick up where Spider-Man: No Way Home on the left, another MCU Spider-Man the film finds Peter Parker alone in a New York that no longer knows his name. This gives Tom Holland's Spider-Man the cleanest reset he's had since entering the franchise.

That's a great starting point Spider-Man: Brand New Daybut it also comes with one familiar Peter Parker problem. Spider-Man stories can make Peter lonely, broken, burdened and self-sacrificing so many times before the new one starts to feel like the same old recycled idea. Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man however, games have already found a better way forward.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day just set a franchise record, and it's great news

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has another update that continues to position it as the best Peter Parker movie in the MCU.

Brand New Day must make Peter Parker reset as growth

A brand new day comes to a special place for the MCU's Spider-Man. No way home ended up erasing Peter Parker from the memories of everyone he loved, essentially leaving him alone in a town that only knew Spider-Man. This gave the character a classic comic book reset, but it also stripped away much of what made Holland's version of the web-slinging superhero unique.

Easy (7.5s) Medium (5.0s) Hard (2.5s) Permadeath (2.5s)

That's the challenge A brand new day now facing. The film can finally give fans the street-level Peter Parker story that many have probably been wanting, with Spider-Man operating independently and no longer relying on Tony Stark's legacy. At the same time, A brand new day must avoid Peter's clean slate turning into another round of the same loneliness that so many adaptations have already used as a plot device.

The problem occurs when it is new Spider-Man the story mistakes Peter's pain for the only way to make him a compelling character, but Insomniac's own Spider-Man games have already offered a solution to this problem. Marvel's Spider-Man it didn't start with teenage peter still learning how to use his powers, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 it didn't end by simply taking it apart again. Instead, the games have treated Peter as someone who can grow, age, mentor, stumble, recover, and ultimately understand that being Spider-Man doesn't have to mean carrying it all alone.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 he's especially important here because he gave Peter a lot of darkness without the regression becoming the main point. The symbiote story forced him to confront the darkest parts of himself, such as his anger, exhaustion, sadness, jealousy, and the pressure of being needed by everyone at once. But Marvel's Spider-Man 2His end didn't just leave him isolated in the ruins of his own life.

A brand new day must avoid Peter's clean slate turning into another round of the same loneliness that so many adaptations have already used as a plot device.

Rather, Insomniac let Peter's world grow around him. Miles Morales became strong enough to protect New York, MJ chose her own future, Harry's tragedy gave Norman Osborn a more dangerous path, and the arrival of Cindy Moon teased another spider-hero entering the scene. Peter wasn't insignificant, but he was finally allowed to stop being the only answer.

In the end, that's the difference Spider-Man: Brand New Day he needs to understand. A reset can be a powerful storytelling tool, but it needs to feel like the beginning of a new chapter, rather than a clever way to replay Peter's oldest injury multiple times. If the movie makes Peter lonely again, it might satisfy the immediateNo way home setting, but it wouldn't necessarily move it further.

Insomniac's version of the character worked because Peter's fight wasn't seen as the whole goal. He was still suffering, but the story used that suffering to make room for Miles, deepen his relationship with MJ, and create threats that could outgrow him. By the end, the retreating Peter didn't feel hopeless because the city had more than one Spider-Man ready to fill his shoes.

Insomniac showed that Spider-Man can outgrow one hero

So that's the real lesson A brand new day can learn from Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man games. The best way to make Peter Parker feel like new again isn't necessarily to take everything away from him. Sometimes the best move is to let it go Spider-Man the world became bigger than Peter himself.

Easy (120s) Medium (90s) Hard (60s)

AND Marvel's Spider-Man 2 managed to achieve this without disrespecting Peter. The game still treated him as emotionally central, gave him a symbiote arc, tied him directly to Harry and Norman Osborn, and made his guilt part of the backbone of the story. But it also trusted Miles enough to make him more than just a sidekick waiting for Peter to need help.

In striking this balance, Insomniac's future with the IP has become much more interesting. Peter can still matter without being the only Spider-Man, Miles can lead without feeling like a replacement, and Cindy Moon can create a new layer without the series losing its foundation. If Marvel's Spider-Man 3 ever happens, his biggest opportunity may be turning that setup into a true Spider-Family story.

Of course, Spider-Man: A brand new day deals with a different continuity. The MCU is currently without Miles Morales as Spider-Man, and his Peter is still recovering from the spell that erased him from the lives of MJ, Ned, Happy Hogan, and the rest of his old world. That said, the film has every reason to lean on solitude at first.

Sometimes the best move is to let it go Spider-Man the world became bigger than Peter himself.

Still, solitude cannot be the complete answer forever. Peter the forgotten gives A brand new day a dramatic starting point, but should not trap him in a permanent loop of isolation. No way home he's already made his sacrifice, so the next movie has to prove that Peter's loss can lead elsewhere.

Peter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

So for A brand new daythe question is not whether Peter should be alone at the beginning, because that has to happen at this point. The real question is whether the film can make his loneliness seem like a step towards growth rather than a reset button pressed out of nostalgia. If A brand new day taking a cue from Insomniac, it would show Peter facing his own limits, admitting them, and stepping back to let a new hero step up to the plate.

That's Peter Parker's problem A brand new day now faces. The movie has to make the familiar reset as progress, and that's harder than simply putting Peter in a Spidey suit and sending him back to New York alone. Insomnia Spider-Man the games have already solved this problem by realizing that Peter's future becomes more interesting when he is finally allowed to share it, and this may be the best step forward for the MCU. Spider-Man also.
