Minecraft's Chaos Cubed Update introduces new mobs, blocks and biomes

Mojang officially released MinecraftChaos Cubed update for Java version 26.2 and Bedrock version 26.30 on June 16, 2026 and it's a big update. The most notable addition has to be the incredibly interesting Brimstone Cube, which the studio describes as a source of “endless experimentation and possibility” as it's the first mob to eat other blocks and change its attributes accordingly, Kirby-style. In addition, the game now has brand new underground sulfur cave biomes that are home to sulfur cube mobs, as well as sulfur pools and sulfur and cinnabar blocks. And to wrap it all up, Minecraft the music library gets a new addition with a music disc called “Bounce”, which can be found in sulfur caves inside abandoned mine shafts.

Easy to medium hard

MinecraftBrimstone cube mob is likely to be a hit among fans of the game due to its unique nature. The Brimstone Cube has the ability to absorb other blocks and then manifest new properties based on what it has consumed. For example, when a cube of sulfur eats a block of wood, it starts to float and bounce, whereas a block of wool would make it light and slow. Additionally, a cube of sulfur can eat a block of TNT, which are some of the more inventive ones Minecraft players are likely to find good exploits.

Meanwhile, the Sulfur Caves containing Sulfur Blocks and Vermilion will surely remain Minecraft players busy for a long time. Players can find sulfur caves by finding sulfur pools in the overworld and then digging to try to hit the sulfur cave. Inside, players will find a dark red cinnabar block and a yellow sulfur block, which can be used to craft a variety of stairs, slabs, and walls in new colors. How will these new blocks and mobs interact with all species Minecraft mods remains to be seen.

The Chaos Cubed update represents the second of three major updates for Minecraft in 2026. Previously in 2026, Minecraft released the Tiny Takeover update, which introduced tons of new baby mobs to the game, along with a golden dandelion item that prevents baby mobs from aging. The next big update is coming this fall with the Dappled Forest update, which should introduce fall forests full of orange, red, and yellow blooms, along with new types of wood. Minecraft has been evolving over the years and fans may want to stay tuned to see what Mojang does next with the game.

Minecraft Chaos Cubed Drop Patch Notes

Full patch notes can be found at Minecraft website.

Bucket of Sulfur Cube

  • Need an easy way to get your new friend the Sulfur Cube from the Sulfur Caves to your base? Sure, you can experiment with the blocks to make the sulfur cube bounce, slide, or travel long distances—or you can simply scoop it up with a bucket and tuck it safely into your inventory.

Sulfur cubes

  • Sulfur Cubes are a new crowd coming to Minecraft with a special taste for… blocks! This strange mob is found in the Brimstone Caverns and changes depending on which block the player feeds it. Experiment to find out how to send sulfur cubes bouncing, sliding and more!

Sulfur springs

  • Located all over the Overworld, you'll know if you've spotted Sulfur Lake thanks to its Sulfur and Cinnabar Blocks – and the noxious gas that emanates from it! But dig beneath them and you'll discover a Sulfur Cave filled with new blocks to mine and a new mob to meet!

Strong sulfur

  • A new thick block of sulfur is why sulfur springs are so bubbly – and a little nasty. You can also create hot bubbling pools by placing strong sulfur under the water! You'll soon spy columns of bubbles, as well as puffs of noxious gas. Build carefully as the noxious gas will make players and surrounding mobs nauseous!

Sulfur Caves

  • Discover this new type of cave with shallow pools of water and glowing lichen. The Sulfur Caves are full of Yellow Sulfur Blocks, Red Vermilion Blocks, Sulfur Spikes, and a special mob called the Sulfur Cube!

New sets of blocks

  • In the Sulfur Caves you will find two new block sets – Cinnabar and Sulphur! These new blocks let you add rich reds and yellows to your builds, and each comes with its own full set of blocks. Tile them, craft with them, turn them into stairs or bricks – the choice is yours!

Sulfur spikes

  • Sulfur spikes grow on blocks of cinnabar and sulfur and give sulfur caves a distinctive look. Unlike Pointed Dripstone, Sulfur Spikes are harmless to step on, but they can still fall and hurt you – this is only a very rare occurrence.

geysers

  • Be careful or you will fly! Geysers form when a block of Magma is created or placed under a thick block of Sulfur that is submerged under 1 to 4 blocks of water. Use them for vertical reinforcement or a dramatic landscaping element!

Special block: TNT

  • Why would anyone feed a block of TNT into a cube of sulfur? To see what happens, of course! Try it yourself, fire it up and enjoy (or deeply regret) the explosive results.

Special Block: Magma

  • Play hot potato by letting the sulfur cube absorb the magma block.

Music

  • Added new music by fingerpit composer (Paula Ruiz) to the game.

    • Added a new music disc with the song “Bounce” that can be found inside Minecars with Chests in abandoned mine shaft structures in Sulfur Caves

    • Added new music tracks Ebb, Home, Memories, Nightly and Shores to main menu music, creative mode music and several biomes

  • New music tracks will play in the following biomes:

    • Desert
