One of the upcoming Septembers PlayStation Plus Extra the games just received their last major pre-launch content update. RuneScape: Dragonwildsarriving on PS5 on September 15th and available through the Extra Games catalog for PlayStation Plus subscribers on day one, has released the Umbral Sands update for Early Access players (on Steam).
Update installs Dragonwilds'accept RuneScapeiconic desert area that adds a harsh new environment full of survival mechanics, new enemies and one of the biggest boss fights in the game to date. It's also the last major content update before Runescape: Dragonwilds is leaving Early Access and fully launching for PC and consoles later this year.

- New desert area – Explore the Umbral Sands, a dangerous desert biome with a dynamic thermal system that forces players to seek shade, build temporary shelters, or travel after dark.
- New dragon boss – Face Fuzan, the Flaming Tyrant, a powerful red dragon that stalks the player at night. Defeating him requires surviving the game's new Fight Cave challenge.
- Combat activity in the cave – Battle waves of enemies, molten lava hazards, and increasingly difficult encounters for rare rewards and powerful vestiges.
- New crafting materials – Collect Adamant, Red Dragonhide and Yew to craft new weapons, armor sets, bows and staves.
- Magic carpet holders – Travel through the desert faster with flying carpets, complete with customization options and new color variants.
- New enemies and allies – Encounter classic RuneScape creatures such as the Kalphites and Kot-Haar, along with the help of Icthlarin, the Menaphite god of the dead.
- Additional language support – Chinese (Simplified), Japanese and Korean support has been officially added.
The biggest addition is the Umbral Sands itself, a new desert area that brings new survival mechanics RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Players will have to deal with intense heat as they explore, forcing them to seek shade, build temporary shelters, or travel after sunset to avoid the harsh conditions. Of course, the desert becomes even more dangerous at night thanks to Fuzan, the flaming tyrant, a powerful red dragon who hunts players across the region. Those looking to take him down will have to face the new Fight Cave, battling waves of enemies and lava challenges before taking on the boss himself for rare rewards.

The update also adds a few familiar ones RuneScape elements to dragonwilds' survival in the open world. Players can collect Adamant, Red Dragonhide, and Yew to craft new armor, weapons, bows, and staves, while magic carpet mounts offer a faster way to travel across the desert. The region is also home to the classics RuneScape enemies such as Kalphites and Kot-Haar, while Icthlarin, the Menaphite god of the dead, appears as an ally to help players on their journey. Taken together, this is a massive update and the last major content drop before Dragonwilds starts in September.
For PlayStation players, the update offers a glimpse of what they'll be getting RuneScape: Dragonwilds will join the PlayStation Plus Extra range in September. The survival spin-off is constantly expanding within Early Access and mixing traditional RuneScape lore and creatures with co-op survival mechanics, base building, crafting and big boss encounters.

The Umbral Sands update may be the last major stop before launch, but Jagex has already teased what's next. The September 15th full release will feature the Scorned Wilderness Raid and a climactic battle against Kuldra that will bring one of Dragonwilds' central storyline to its conclusion. For PS Plus Extra subscribers, this means the biggest and most complete version of the game will be available from day one.
