ShackNews (Asif Khan) – Score: 10/10

Nintendo Switch 2 has been a summer blockbuster that faithfully honors its source material while introducing Star Fox to a new generation.

Vooks (Daniel Vuckovic) – Score: 10/10

Star Fox is the blueprint for how Nintendo needs to do remakes in the future. This is Star Fox for those who have been there since the beginning and for those who are starting here for the first time. Star Fox 64 is iconic, but now it's the definitive way to experience it.

Game Informer (Kyle Hilliard) – Score 8.3/10

This Switch 2 remake is a joyous and updated reminder of why the 1997 game is actually very good and fun, but it also shines a spotlight on the fact that we're long overdue for something – frankly, anything – new from Star Fox and team.

Polygon (Giovanni Colantonio) – no official score

Star Fox is another good excuse to revisit one of Nintendo's best games, but it doesn't build on it meaningfully. Fox McCloud is left in the same stasis he's been in for decades: surviving the Lylat Wars to show he can follow in his father's footsteps. I understand that. How many more times will he have to prove that he is his own fox before he is allowed to fight his own battles? Give his future cubs a war story worth feeling insecure about.

TechRadar (Dashiell Wood) – Score: 7/10

Star Fox is a solid remake of an excellent game that retains everything that made the original a cult classic while giving it a fresh coat of paint. Still, it feels overpriced given the short length of the campaign and the unfortunate lack of new content, aside from a decently enjoyable, if somewhat cheesy, multiplayer mode.

However, not all reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Polygons Star Fox the review states that the enhanced “cinematic” feel of the remake doesn't do much to enhance or detract from the overall experience, and sometimes even takes away some of the playfulness of the original game in favor of a gritty feel. Meanwhile, CNET's review wishes there was more Star Fox than what was delivered, whether it was new levels or new worlds, instead of it being a pretty straightforward port with new visuals and some gameplay tweaks. As a whole though Star Fox is a hit with most critics, although it seems like it could have gone the extra mile with other features. Fans should take notice Star Fox it starts at midnight on June 25th, but those on the west coast can play on June 24th since it's a global release.
