Sand: Raiders of Sophie is a PvPvE extraction game similar to Sea of Thieves. Instead of pirate ships, however, players chase massive mechs called Tramplers through the enemy desert. During your exploration you will come across different types of loot ranging from weapons, armor, ammo, parts for your mech and various crafting materials.
Two of these materials are Threads and Fabric Scraps, which are needed to unlock various Trampler parts in the Dmytro Melnyk skill tree. Here's where to find those materials to start upgrading your mech and become the hunter instead of the prey.
Where to find the thread
Similar to other crafting and upgrade materials in Sand: Raiders of Sophie, you can only find Thread in a specific type of container. At the time of this writing, the thread is either in a food crate, a rare food crate, or a very rare food crate. They all have a very high chance of having around 15-30 threads when looted.
There is no other way to get Thread at this time, so don't expect to be able to buy it or find it in other lootable containers like medicine cabinets or valuable safes. The crates you're looking for will be clearly marked with a white cow icon painted on top, so keep an eye out for that when you're looting a shipwreck or town.
Speaking of which, the best places to find food crates are forts, named cities, or ship holds. At the forts, you'll either need to bring a timed explosive or use the cannon on the Trampler to blast the big red door that's locked. Once inside, you can search the inner courtyard and climb the walls. Both locations often have a lot of loot, and I've come across quite a few rare and very valuable food crates in these locations.
Tnamed cities that are a bit more hit or miss when it comes to consistently finding food crates. This is largely due to the size of these points of interest and how many of the lootable containers are spread out. You can absolutely find Food Crates here, just remember that these places are heavily guarded by both the Ironclads and the zombie-like enemies roaming the streets.
Finally, you'll want to keep an eye out for any ship that has a big red door on it. Similar to keep doors, they can be opened and usually contain about 5-6 lootable crates. Crates of food aren't guaranteed, but these areas get looted so quickly that it's almost always worth a quick stop and check!

Where to find substance residues
Unsurprisingly, fabric scraps follow the same rule as Thread and currently only appear in a specific type of crate. They are Crate of Shells, Rare Crate of Shells and Very Rare Crate of Shells. All of these have a chance to spawn Fabric Scraps, however the Very Rare Crate of Shells has a higher chance of spawning actual Fabric instead of Fabric Scraps.
To find these crates, you'll want to check the usual looting spots like forts, towns, and shipwrecks. Where things differ from Thread is that normal wrecks are usually a great source for Threadas they almost always seem to contain either a shell crate or a weapon crate (sometimes both!) that you can loot.
These are usually only guarded around two enemies and you can easily hit several wrecks in a few minutes. If you require fabric scraps for your upgrade paths, I highly recommend stopping all the different ships and letting them pass quickly. You can easily fill your leftovers without having to step into some of the more dangerous, high-traffic areas.
