Steam'Backend information confirms that the popular roguelike RPG Moonlightr will join the beloved Free-to-Keep event on the store in August 2026. Of course, it's possible that it will join earlier and something could pop up in the meantime, as the dates are never specified before it's added, but PC gamers should keep in mind that Monthly is set for a free contract on Steam in August.
This is especially important due to the ongoing Steam Summer Sale. There's no doubt that there are plenty of great deals in the Steam Summer Sale, including Monthly. It's currently 85% off until July 9th, which means Steam users can pick it up for the low, low price of $2.99 (down from $19.99), but the only thing better than a solid game (80% very positive reviews) for $3 is a solid game for free. In other words, some fans may want to skip this Steam Summer Sale and wait for the Free-to-Keep Promotion, but it's worth noting that the last one will only last a few days. Shop now for cheap and it's still a fantastic deal. Or wait and try to claim it completely free, either it is solid.

Steam Dev Makes 2D Platformer 2025 100% Free
A generous Steam developer is removing the price tag from its 2D platformer and allowing die-hard fans to play it for free.
Steamdb added Monthly to Steam's Free-to-Keep Promotion list thanks to recent backend changes, making it the first game listed for August. It's the only one for August so far, while only 2 full games are listed as part of Steam's Free-to-Keep Games Promotion for July: a hardcore decision-based RPG The Life and Sufferings of Sir Brante and Another Zombie Defense HD (says it all in the title).

For those unaware, Monthly is an action RPG that combines roguelike dungeon crawling with shop management in a way few games have attempted. Players take on the role of Will, a merchant who explores dangerous dungeons at night, collecting weapons, artifacts and other treasures before returning home to sell during the day. This constant cycle of fighting monsters, upgrading equipment, stocking shelves, and expanding both the store and the nearby village creates an addictive gameplay loop – in many ways, it's a business twist on games like the classic Zeldawith added roguelike features.
Such comparisons are also well-deserved, as already mentioned. Monthly has earned an 80% highly positive rating on Steam, with players praising its rewarding gameplay loop, charming pixel-art style, and satisfying balance between combat and business “simulation”. Many reviews point to the game's unique premise as its greatest strength, arguing that the shop management gives each dungeon run a greater sense of purpose. While some players feel that the variety of battles and dungeons gets repetitive later in the 2D Steam game, the general consensus is that Monthly successfully combines two very different genres into one unforgettable experience.
The success of the original game also paved the way Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vaultwhich expands almost every aspect of the formula. The sequel features fully 3D visuals, new regions to explore, deeper progression systems, and even more opportunities to grow Will's business, while retaining the dungeon crawling and merchant gameplay that made the first game so popular.
