Earlier this week, fans got their first look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The new trailer introduced four new characters, while hiding a fifth. The show is confirmed for 10 episodes and will be directed by Kai Ikarashi (Mob Psycho 100, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 three times, Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade).
The excitement surrounding the trailer has clearly fueled fans' desire to return to Night City, as it has shot up the Steam charts and seen an influx of players in recent days.
Cyberpunk 2077 gets a welcome boost thanks to the new Edgerunners trailer
In September 2022, when the first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was released, the number of players on Cyberpunk 2077 more than tripled. It showed an intense synergy between the show and the game, and it's happening again.
Over the past few days, Cyberpunk 2077 has peaked at 87,129 players on Steam, according to SteamDB. This is the most since October 2024, when 274,526 players were online following the release of the game's 2.0 update. This represents a 63 percent increase in top players from last month and a 25 percent increase in average players. It also flew up the sales charts.
With a steep 70 percent discount, Cyberpunk 2077 has moved up to seventh place on the Global Top Selling Steam Games list, behind the (very expensive) Steam Machine, Apex Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Meccha Chameleon, Dota 2 and PUBG. It's a notch ahead of Dead by Daylight, which is emphatically celebrating its tenth anniversary, and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, which is currently 90 percent cheaper.
Given the impact the trailer had on the game, it will be interesting to see what happens when Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 launches later this fall. With so many new characters, fans have already started mourning them all.
