After 21 years, Boruto says goodbye to the Jinchuriki forever

Officially introduced in Naruto Chapter #261 June 13, 2005 Jinchuriki were once an integral part of Naruto's overarching energy system and Boruto franchise. Naruto Uzumaki, the original protagonist of the series, was a Jinchuriki and one of the nine that existed in the world. Even the main villain in the original Naruto series, Madara Uchiha, eventually became the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, further emphasizing his importance in the story.

However, in Boruto era, 21 years after their introduction, the Jinchuriki are now dying one by one. What's more, a major shift in the energy system that has developed with the recent arcs Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes officially points out that the Jinchuriki system is dead and no longer relevant in the overarching storyline of the story. Instead, they were replaced by a very different energy system.

Jinchuriki are no longer relevant in Boruto's story with the introduction of karma and human tailed beasts

Jinchuriki were the primary energy system in the original Naruto story. A Jinchuriki is basically a container that the Tailed Beast is sealed in. Usually Jinchuriki were used for tailed beast warfare between villages. By sealing the powerful tailed beasts that stood as masses of chakra inside the people, these weapons kept every village under control and almost functioned like the world's nuclear weapons. It was Naruto Uzumaki who revolutionized the world by befriending these Tailed Beasts and becoming their leader for the very first time.

“Since Bijuu have unimaginable power, every country wanted to use them for military purposes. Jinchuriki is something that exists to control this Bijuu power.” — Chiyo Explains Jinchuriki, Naruto, Chapter #261

Thanks to Naruto, the Tailed Beasts were seen as more than just weapons and were allowed to roam the world freely. Naruto Uzumaki was one of only two remaining Jinchuriki at the end of the series, the other being Killer B. Unfortunately, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation Chapter 55, officially released on Kurama was officially dead and Naruto was no longer a Jinchuriki.

“Normally, when a Jinchuriki's Biju is extracted, they die. But that doesn't concern you. The Biju chakra just disappears. It may look like you're dead to others, but you're just in temporary shock. Don't worry, you'll wake up soon. The price I'll pay for Baryon Mode is my life, not yours, if you already have the superhu, but I already have the power.” you'll overdo it, you'll join me soon, but until that day comes, you'll be fine, Naruto.” — Kurama's death causes Naruto to lose his Jinchuriki status, Boruto, Chapter #55

what's more Boruto: Two Blue Vortexeswho officially started his new arc in Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026, is evidently moving away from the Tailed Beast energy system. Boruto introduced us to the power of karma way back in chapter #1. Since then, this force of karma has become the primary power system in the world. In Two Blue Vortex, another energy system that relates to Tailed Beasts was introduced to replace the Jinchuriki system. This is the “Human Tailed Beasts” system. In Boruto, Mikio Ikemoto basically invented a system that is far superior to the Jinchuriki system by combining the powers of a Tailed Beast with a human. This was seen again in the Mamushi arc, which ended its run in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 33 on April 20, 2026.

Why Killer Bee stands as Boruto's final Jinchuriki

Killer Bee Boruto The Last Jinchuriki

WITH Boruto Officially walking away from the Jinchuriki system forever, Killer B remains the last Jinchuriki standing in the story. After the end of the 4th Great Ninja War, Gyuki, the eight-tailed beast, decided to stay behind with Killer B for the sake of their friendship. B won't live forever, and once he dies, the Jinchuriki system will officially end with him.

There are some other characters with the power of the Tailed Beast, such as Shinju Jura, who is an incarnation of the Ten Tails themselves, as well as Himawari Uzumaki, who has the power of Kurama within her. However, Mikio Ikemoto, the creator of Boruto, made it clear that they are not Jinchuriki at all. In reality, Jura is an incarnation of the Ten-Tails in humanoid form. In other words, Jura is the ten tails themselves and not a human with the power of the ten tails. Similarly, Kurama officially confirmed v Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes Chapter 25 that Himawari is similar to Jura in that she is not a Jinchuriki but a human tailed beast. All these things taken into consideration confirm to us that the Jinchuriki system is officially dead and Boruto has said goodbye to it forever.

“You're no ordinary Shinobi. In fact, you're even a bit different from the Jinchuriki… the ones who have the Tailed Beast within them. You're human, but if anything, you're more like me and Jura.” — Kurama explains why Himawari is not a Jinchuriki, Boruto: The Two Blue Vortexes Chapter #25

After Bee, the Jinchuriki system officially dies in Boruto

Jinchuriki system officially Die Boruto

The Jinchuriki system supported Naruto franchise for a very long time and stood as one of the best additions to it. Unfortunately, with the threat of Otsutsuki being introduced, the bad guys are just too strong for the Tailed Beasts to make any difference in the fight. Even someone as strong as the Tailed Beast Jinchuriki would hardly be able to hold his own against the likes of Otsutsuki. Naruto Uzumaki with the power of the six paths still needed help from Sasuke to hold his own against the likes of Momoshiki. This clearly shows that the gap in power between the Tailed Beasts and the villains of the Boruto series is only getting bigger.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex welcomes its new successor, Hashirama

Hashirama was the legendary Hokage with Wood Release abilities in Naruto. Now he has a new successor in Boruto.

Therefore, there was a need to move beyond the Jinchuriki system and introduce something that would allow the protagonists of the series to keep up with monsters like Akatsuki and Shinju. This will make the Jinchuriki system last as long as Killer Bee lasts, but it only exists in the world symbolically. He does not play any significant role in the story and was basically cut out of the main plot. Once Bee dies, the system dies with him and it's going to be a really sad day for all Naruto fans. Still, the new humanoid Tailed Beasts system is basically very similar, but an improved form that allows the user to gain more power from the Tailed Beasts and allows them to compete on an equal footing with powerful monsters like Otsutsuki. In that sense, we're definitely happy to see this system evolve even further and create exciting matchups for the future of the franchise.

All chapters of Boruto by Mikio Ikemoto, supervised by Masashi Kishimoto, are available to read through Manga Plus and Viz Media.
