Baldur's Gate 3: 9 Biggest Differences When Playing As Wyll

If you're playing as Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3, expect these changes to your gameplay.

Wyll, Blade of Frontiers is a perfect example. Initially tasked with killing a certain 'demon', the young Ravengard's very existence may be changed forever. Whenever you decide to bring him along as your faithful companion, the results for our favorite goody-two-shoes wizard are numerous. Giving him that horny look is just the beginning.

Lost In The Grove

Wyll calls you a traitor in the Emerald Grove in Baldur's Gate 3.

Because he has no interest in bloodshed, Wyll will leave your party if you choose to attack Emerald Grove with Minthara. He'll usually try to warn Grove, but if you convince him that it's a Goblin trap, he'll stay with the party.

If you still choose to betray the Tieflings with him in your party, Wyll becomes hostile and you are forced to kill him. If he is in your camp during the attack instead, he will leave during the Goblin's celebration.

Similarly, if you never recruited Wyll, his body will be found after the battle if you side with the goblins. If you side with the Tieflings but never recruit him, he simply won't appear in subsequent acts once you head into Act 2.

An early visit to hell

Mizora talks about Wyll's contract in Baldur's Gate 3.

During Act 2, Mizora asks the player for help in rescuing one of Zariel's (ruler of Avern) servants from the hands of the Absolute. The servant is none other than Mizora herselftrapped inside an Illithid pod. You'll meet her once you get to Mindflaer's Colony below the Moonrise Towers.

If you choose to leave or kill Mizora, Wyll is immediately sent to Avern for all eternity as a Lemure.a blobby monster destined to torture day after day. This is because he violated one of the clauses of his pact by neglecting his duty. This happens even though Wyll wasn't the one to condemn his patron, so I wouldn't ignore her if you care about him in the slightest.

Duke of RavengardWyll talks about his political life during the epilogue of Baldur's Gate 3

After completing Wyll's character quest (The Blade of Frontiers) by defeating the dragon Ansur in Act 3, Given a choice, Wyll will follow in his father's footsteps and become the next Duke of Baldur's Gate.

You can encourage him to put down his blade and pursue a political life, and he'll take the position once you've dealt with Netherbrain. It is not necessary to save his father for this conclusion.

During Withers' epilogue party, you'll have the chance to meet the newest Duke. Wyll's personal struggles and triumphs depend on the choices you make during your playthrough. He comments on how his horns can be a nuisance when he becomes a demon for example.

His goal is to rule alongside the three other dukes, which will include Florrick and his father, Ulder Ravengard, if they are still alive. He is still looking for another ruler and invites the player to take that role if you have romanced him.

If his contract with Mizora is broken, he is nowhere to be found and Wyll mentions that he has learned some new tricks of his own. If he is still her servant, she remains by his side constantly in human disguise, much to his amusement and annoyance. Regardless of the situation, Wyll wishes to rebuild the city and forge as many alliances as possible.

The blade of Avern rises

Wyll declares himself the Blade of Avernus to his father in Baldur's Gate 3.

If Wyll becomes a demon and you complete his quest but don't push him to become a duke and say he's a hero instead, takes a new title as Blade of Avernus. After taking on his new nature, he begins hunting demons and demons right in Avern. Six months later, he would be summoned to Withers' party.

You can join him on this new journey if you romance himand you will both be invited to the epilogue later. During the epilogue, he will excitedly share stories about his defeated brands. If you went to hell together, he'll remember you defeating them both instead.

Like other endings, there are some differences depending on how you conducted your adventures. He mentions how proud his father is of him if he is alive, and that Mizora is surprisingly cool with his new target, leaving him free to pursue the enemies of Avernus as long as they are still bound by the treaty.

However, if their contract is broken, he mentions that she is his next target and is currently looking for a way to find and defeat her once and for all. He is now a Guardian as he has lost his wizarding powers.

This ending also has another branch. After defeating Netherbrain, if Wyll has become the Blade of Avernus and you have completed Karlach's character quest, he will offer to return to Avernus by her side and swear to protect her from Zariel.

She will agree and the two of them together in Avernus search for a definitive solution to Karlach's heart. During the epilogue, he will talk about their adventures together, and during those six months the two became much closer. Of course you can also join them if you want. Probably the best possible ending for Karlach and great for Wyll as well.

A frontier edge adventure

Wyll happily aims his blade at the camera in Baldur's Gate 3.

Wyll will retain his original title if you can complete his personal quest without turning him into a demon and choose not to be Duke.or if you don't complete his quest at all.

Not completing the quest works for both human and Wyll demon. This is the only way to give him this ending as a demon.

This ending is quite similar to the Blade of Avernus path, with the most notable difference that monsters killed by it (creatures like dragons and giants instead of demons). Of course, the end of the pair Karlach cannot happen, because he has no reason to head to Avernus.

His relationship with his father and Mizoro are also roughly the same, with small details changing to fit his situation. Wyll remains essentially the same as when you met himso while it's not a bad ending per se, it's not the best of them either. At least he stays alive and happy.
