A Pokemon GO player reaches level 43 by barely “playing” the game

AND Pokemon Go the player managed to reach level 43 in the game without catching a single Pokémon besides the mandatory starter at the beginning. Since its launch in 2016 Pokemon GoThe appeal largely came down to catching franchise icons like Pikachu, Charmander, and Mewtwo in the real world. This core concept helped the game appeal to both lapsed fans and those who have stuck with the series since the beginning.

This year marks 10 years since Pokemon Goand the game offered players a lot of freedom to enjoy the game as they saw fit. Some players like to participate in the GO Battle League, while others focus on completing the Pokedex. After months of rumors, Niantic confirms that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are finally coming to Pokemon GO in the very near future.

Reaching level 43 Catching only one Pokemon

In a post on Reddit, user TheBadHombre_ shared images from Pokemon Go and told posters how they managed to reach level 43 while catching a single Pokemon. As part of a personal challenge, the player decided to start a new game, initially only catching the required starter Pokémon. Pokemon GoPokeStops only offer XP for spinning them, and a special event increased the amount of XP by 10 times. TheBadHombre_ still gets Pokemon by hatching eggs, but they actively avoid catching anything. After Team Rocket's raids and battles, they even ran away from opportunities to catch Pokemon.

Since starting this quest, TheBadHombre_ has managed to hatch 241 eggs, resulting in five shiny Pokemon and one with perfect stats. Hatching eggs were their primary means of coping, though they noted that “it's very expensive when you're trying to chase down a month's worth of research”. It's an interesting way to play and certainly wouldn't appeal to everyone. However, fans often set unusual challenges, such as Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen a player who beat the Elite 4 using a Baby Pokemon. Sometimes it's just about finding a new challenge.

After reaching level 43, it will be interesting to see how far TheBadHombre_ can go with this method. Pokemon GoThe level cap was increased last year, allowing players to go all the way up to level 80. Getting to that level is a lot of work for those who play the game normally, let alone those who put special restrictions on themselves. However, that's part of the challenge for the poster, who said they want to “create a sense of longevity in the game.”

For those who prefer to play Pokemon Go in a more traditional way, the developers seem equally committed to protecting this lifetime. The game's 10th anniversary celebration coincides with this year's Pokemon GO Fest, and Niantic is preparing special research for all players for free during the global event. Players who log in during the announced times will automatically receive special research and gain access to all the same benefits as regular paid incentives, including increased shiny encounter rates. Additionally, the game makes Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y available for the first time.
