Algs Championship wins “changes how people look at us,” says Gonext's Hiatus

Location: Sold out Daiwa Premist Dome, Sapporo, Japan. Action: Algs Championship, the largest APEX legends tournament so far. Winner: Gonext.

The Algs Championship in Sappor, originating in England, is a very different animal for Esports that I am used to. The crowd is polite and offers a gentle applause when the team gets killed. There are few singing and none of them was rinsed. But this is a community that clearly loves top legends passionately – it just does it in its own way.

Sunday was a new energy championship. It's not rough, but a feeling of expectation. Expectation. After four days of intensive behavior today everything lies. After such an intense week of the tournament after such an incredible event that showed the heart and soul of Apex legend Fanbase, he had to live the last day according to Humbuk. And after nine matches he did it: Gonext was crowned with a champion.

Thegamer Dohnal Igl Filipe 'Hiarka' Morgado after the match to distribute their victory and see how they felt after they closed the victory at the biggest Algs tournament.

“She still feels unreal,” Hiatus tells me just minutes after the Algs Championship trophy lifts. “It's like I was in the simulation.” His phone blows with messages to the point where Twitter collapsed. He can't stop staring at the medal hung around his neck.

“It means it all,” he continues. “That's what every player wants at least once in their lives.” And for me it means even more, because firstly it is in Japan and secondly it is a championship. It's not a play -off, it's the biggest tournament of the year, it's the best 40 teams in the world. That means everything. ”

No one would have presented this result. Gonext are good, old -fashioned losers. In the hall with names like Phillip 'Imperialhal' Dosen on Superteam Sokols, Fighting the Esports World Cup Alliance and going to head to head with home -favorite Fnatic, Gonext are relative Nobodies. While Hiara and Jose 'Uxacko' Llosa have been on the competitive top scene for years, their victory surprised everyone this weekend.

“I didn't expect.” [to win]”Hiarka tells me,” but I always believed. I am not afraid of anyone in the game. We have skills – we were also lucky, it is a peak, it is a battle Royale – but we had the right communication, the right luck and we won. ”

But it wasn't smooth sailing. Gonext had a successful, albeit undervalued tournament and achieved the final through the competition of the Round Robin competition. But today, Gonext disappeared in 14th place after four matches, with only 17 points on board as the complexity approached the point of the match.

“I felt very inclined,” explains the Portuguese player. “Because we were losing each other, we weren't unlucky or something.” I am grateful that we have a coach […] He just reassured me and said, “We can win, we can win” and then the boys slowly returned, and then we were victory in the electronic district like “No, we win”. ”

This victory took Gonext to the match. Only two matches later secured another victory, this time to Storm Point to claim the trophy. But what now? Where to go?

“Like a team.” [we’re not going to] conversion. We are not perfect, we have to fix some things, but we won't change. It will change how people look at us and how much they respect us now. ”

Hiarka says he had a great time in Japan – although I imagine that the events of the last few hours would feel great. He was hit by how polite people and the passion of fans in Sappor. You can see the dizziness on his face when he remembers fans who encourage his team when they won, despite the fact that Gonext was such an underdogs with several devoted supporters.

Gonext etcted into the books of Algs history, reaching only a handful of other teams ever tasted. But there is one thing Hiatus will take home to Portugal tomorrow morning on his flight for 5 hours – just like his winner medals, of course.

“If you believe in yourself, it's enough.” No matter what others think. ”
