NFL fans lose it over completely unrecognisable Bill Belichick during NFL Draft coverage

Bill Belichick saved his personality for his post-coaching career.

Belichick, known for his gruff demeanour and teeth-pulling press conferences during his tenure with the Patriots, earned strong reviews for his NFL Draft analysis, the NY Post reports.

The six-time Super Bowl champion head coach analysed picks as part of “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“Thoroughly enjoying Bill Belichick on Pat McAfee’s draft show,” Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina posted on X. “Just did a film breakdown of Caleb Williams that was 50/50 praise and criticism. Amazing to see that during a draft when every analyst says every player is the greatest thing ever.”

There had been some uncertainty about how Belichick would fare in such a setting considering his disdain at times for media duties during his coaching career, but there’s never been a doubt about his gridiron expertise.

Belichick certainly differentiated himself with his critical assessments of the draft’s quarterbacks, including a pointed critique of Drake Maye’s footwork.

Unlike other analysts, who may be worried how their comments can affect their next job, Belichick seemingly did not hold back while pointing out where the newest Patriot can improve.

His analysis stole the show and left social media users blowing up over just how different he is compared to his time coaching.

Journalist Ben Axelrod wrote: “I can’t get over how good Belichick was last night. It’s to the point that I’ll be upset if he goes back to coaching. He and McAfee could be the sports media’s best odd couple in a long time.”

Broadcaster Adam White wrote: “Bill sounds like a totally different person now he’s not the head coach.”

SI Now journalist Jimmy Traina wrote: “Belichick is amazing on the Pat McAfee draft show. Points out the positives and talent of each pick and then spends the same amount of time shitting all over them. It’s truly unlike any analysis you’ve ever seen during a draft.”

One user wrote: “Watching this morning how Bill Belichick handled himself on the Pat McAfee show when the Falcons made one of the silliest picks in draft history. After the way they’ve dragged his name through the mud over the last week … I have so much respect for him.”

A second added: “Belichick draft coverage is so good. It’s amazing to hear some actual analysis and some of what they do bad.

A third wrote “Bill Belichick is a tremendous television analyst. Really good stuff.”

Since Belichick will not be patrolling any sidelines this upcoming season, a strong showing during the Draft was a preview of the season ahead.

Belichick will be a regular guest with McAfee and is also expected to have a re-occurring role on the “Manningcast” with Eli and Peyton, The Athletic reported.

His former quarterback, Tom Brady, is already preparing for his media career with Fox.

Perhaps this will be part two of the Brady-Belichick takeover.

“For both Belichick and Brady always thought either/both would be great on TV … if they’re actually willing to be critical,” tweeted Scott McLaughlin of WEEI in Boston. “Belichick has been tonight – more than most draft analysts – and has been great as a result.”
