MasterChef Australia viewers hit out at ‘very annoying’ contestant habit

MasterChef Australia viewers have taken to fan forums and social media in a bid to urge producers to make a change to the show after all noticing the same “annoying” detail.

The beloved series has been a huge success for Channel 10, and viewers seem to be loving the new judging line-up following the show’s return last week.

However, a small but vocal minority of fans are urging MasterChef producers to make a fundamental change to the show after growing tired of a “gross” detail.

“Why are we seeing hair in faces?! Why are we seeing HAIR TOUCHING? Why are we seeing bracelets, dangly earrings and RINGS? I know they’re home cooks but we’re not at home!” complained one viewer after the latest episode aired.

Others agreed, with one teasing: “Whenever the dumplings arrive (if they actually do), I’m assuming the hero ingredient will be hair …”

Despite the fresh complaints, it’s certainly nothing new… MasterChef Australia has never required its contestants to wear hairnets or trim their facial hair ahead of competing, with most major cookery shows following suit. However, that hasn’t stopped a flurry of concerned tweets from some fans.

“Please, please, please, somebody take hold of these contestants and put their hair out of the way of the food, I cringe watching it fall all over their faces. Pretty mop caps would be great,” wrote another fan.

Others agreed with the sentiment, with one viewer saying: “That hair all over their faces is very annoying and not a good look around food”.

“I have shoulder-length hair and if I forget to tie it back, I can guarantee there will be a hair in the food if I cook,” ranted another. “So there must be at least one hair in the food they mak”.

Fans of the show have previously complained about some of the “unhygienic” habits exhibited by former contestants.

Last season, numerous viewers took to social media platforms to call out contestants for dipping their fingers into their food, only to then serve it up to the judges.

Viewers were introduced to a group of new MasterChef Australia contestants last week who are all battling it out for the whopping $250,000 prize.

After the premiere, many shared their love for new judge Poh Ling Yeow, who as expected went down a treat with viewers.

“Poh just gone straight in and taken charge. Loves it,” gushed one viewer, while another tweeted: “Can’t get enough of Poh!!”

Others raved about her judging style, remarking that she’s a breath of fresh air.

“I love Poh as a judge, she’s empathetic, articulate and funny,” said a viewer, with another adding: “Poh’s already my favourite judge”.

MasterChef Australia airs Monday through to Thursday at 7:30pm on 10.
