Huge change coming to Pringles can in Australia

A change has been introduced to one of the most iconic canned snacks in Australia with Pringles announcing it will be shrinking the size of its 53g can.

But save the shrinkflation outrage for another time — there will still be the same amount of chips in it.

The height of the can will be reduced by close to 10 per cent, which will save 37,000 square kilograms of packaging waste every year across Australia and New Zealand.

It’s the equivalent of 30 million Pringles chips.

“Pringles have a distinctive and iconic can, and we’re committed to maintaining quality while continuing to find ways to minimise our environmental footprint,” Dan Bitti, Kellanova’s Head of Salty Snacks, said.

“We’re excited to introduce revamped cans delivering the same snack with less packaging.”

It could be the first time that Pringles had changed its look in order to be more sustainable, with the plastic lid being removed from the 53g can in 2022.

More changes are expected to come across the Pringles range in a bid to make the packaging more sustainable.

In 2021, Pringles made its first change to the brand’s iconic moustached man logo in 20 years and customers weren’t entirely thrilled.

His bushy brown moustache and eyebrows were gone. Instead he is looking a lot more “hipster” with sleek black moustache and sculpted brows.

Disgruntled customers wasted no time in voicing how they felt about the new ’do.

Some fans likened it to a “a copy version you’d expect to see at Aldi” and a “bartender in a hipster speak-easy”.

One person on Twitter lamented the new logo had lost the “shine in his eye”.

“If I got to hell, whoever changed the Pringles logo better be there too,” another person said.

Shoppers can find the “same stack, less pack” can in all major supermarkets from May.
