Shock as Target item ‘shatters’ during dinner

A mother was left stunned after her Target pot “shattered” as she was making dinner — but not everything was as it seemed.

Shannen Gunning, a mother-of-two, was making a cooking tutorial video on the stove top using a $10 casserole dish from Target.

“I just got this new pot today. It was only $10 from Target,” she said, while stirring up some chopped veggies.

“I hope this pot is big enough.”

She put some canned tomatoes into the mix and poured water into it when suddenly the bottom of the pot came out.

Ms Gunning jumped back as the pot began to sizzle and smoke up as the liquid hit the stove top.

A voice could be heard calling out asking what had happened.

Target pot collapses on stove top

“The pot cracked. It’s shattered. It broke,” she said as she began to laugh.

She joked that it likely meant the family would be getting Macca’s for dinner instead, adding the Target website said the pot could “transition from stove top to oven”.

However, there was more to it than meets the eye.

The pot was an Anko product, meaning it was produced by Kmart. Kmart’s listing advertises the casserole dish as “oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe”.

Initially, Target’s online listing said it could transition from stove top to the oven but that has since been updated.

A Target spokesperson told news.com.au: “Our Anko Round Casserole Dish is oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe, and we have updated our online web page to reflect this.

“We encourage any customer who experiences an issue with a product to get in touch with our customer service team to ensure that it can be investigated properly.”

Social media users were shocked at what had unfolded.

“OMG when you were cooking I was like that does not look like a stove top pan,” one social media user said.

“It looks like an oven dish. I wonder how many people this has happened to, surely they mislabeled it, that is soooo dangerous! I’m glad no one was hurt!”

Another said: “As soon as you said $10 pot from Target, I wondered.”

“It was the cold water that did. It was the COLD WATER,” one claimed.
