Nick Daicos may have won the game for Collingwood on Friday night, but his famous dad Peter did his best to just about steal the show.

In an MCG classic against old foes Carlton, the Pies prevailed in a thriller in front of the biggest home and away crowd ever between these teams, 12.13 (85) to 12.7 (79), with Nick Daicos kicking the winning goal.

Of the 88,362 fans packed into the ground, no one seemed to relish the Collingwood victory more than Peter Daicos, a premiership-winner and all-time great from his 250 games in the black and white stripes.

The 62-year-old was caught on camera in two memorable moments after the final siren that you can see in the video player above.

In the first, a jubilant Daicos is seen giving a one-armed salute, seemingly towards the Blues, after the nailbiting win.

It was delivered with such gusto, the Collingwood Team of the Century member almost appeared to lose his balance, sealing the moment with an F-bomb.

Daicos was then accosted by Brian Taylor in his Roving Brian segment in the Collingwood rooms after the match, a Channel 7 segment that goes to air live, often with unpredictable results.

A fired up Daicos was involved in a feisty chat with journalist Rohan Connolly when Taylor approached with his live microphone, with the two-time best and fairest heard declaring: “They were f**king useless, Carlton.”

Taylor was briefly flustered and was unable to put a question to the Collingwood great before he teed off on the umpires.

“The umpiring, don’t even start me on the umpiring,” Daicos began.

“No the umpiring was all good tonight,” Taylor replied.

“Was it? Really?” Daicos fired back.

Taylor, a former Collingwood and Richmond full forward, then tried to steer the conversation back towards the thrilling contest.

“It was a great game, wasn’t it?” Taylor asked.

“Oh mate, it was a cracking game. (Collingwood) were against it and mate they pulled it out.

“There was a lot of heart there and that’s what you’re looking for. Don’t worry about having the time to chip out and do the easy stuff.

“Mate, they nailed down and away they went. That was a great win. Absolutely sensational win.”

“A fired up Peter Daicos here tonight,” Taylor said as he walked on. “Nice to see the passion.”

This writer isn’t a lip-reader, but Daicos appeared to say “and you owe me” to the camera as he walked away, seemingly wanting credit for stopping to chat.

As always, there was a mix response to Daicos’ performance on social media, with some suggesting the footy legend had been enjoying the hospitality offerings in the MCG box during the game.

“Daicos was spot on about the umpiring, was not good! Collingwood got it done with Carlton favoured once again. Great W! Love the honesty & passion!” former Opals basketball coach Brendan Joyce tweeted.

“Daics has had some great service in the box tonight by the sounds of it,” was another comment.

Another wrote: “He’s enjoying life, good on him.”

“He needs to grow up. Embarrassing behaviour,” stated another.

“Haha how good is this man, cant love him enough!!!!” added a fourth.

It was a colourful end to a huge night for the Pies, who moved into the top eight at least temporarily with the win, which has helped stabilise the defence of their 2023 flag.
