Every day in classrooms across the nation, teachers fulfil one of society’s most vital roles, but how often do we stop to say a simple “thank you”?
As part of our Australia’s Best Teachers campaign, we are encouraging everyone, young and old, to pen a letter to the teacher who helped shape their life.
With the education sector facing numerous challenges and reports of dwindling work satisfaction, it’s more important than ever to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our teachers.
Through heartfelt letters, we can express gratitude for the profound impact they have on our lives.
Students around the country have already started sending in their personal letters, each one echoing common themes of appreciation.
From Revesby Public School in NSW, Adira Vili, 9, and Leon Galea, 7, presented their teacher Magdalene Ball with acknowledgment of her kind approach to teaching.
“My teacher is the greatest because my teacher helps me to learn about strategies that I can use in reading,” Adira wrote.
“My teacher helps everyone when they are stuck.”

Leon wrote: “My teacher is the best because she gives everyone a turn and cheers for us. My teacher is the best because she shows kindness and shows us our brain is getting smarter by teaching us new things.”
From Queensland’s Northgate State School, students Gauraang Suneja and Posy Hooper penned heartfelt letters to their teacher, Janet Price.
Posy expressed her deep appreciation: “Dear Mrs. Price, I want to tell you I really enjoy being in your class. I love how you teach science and I have grown to love it more because of you. I’m so grateful that you are my teacher this year. I’ll always remember this year.”
Gauraang added, “Dear Mrs. Price, I’m writing to tell you why you are a kind and efficient teacher. I’m impressed by how you manage everything on time. You always make sure everybody is feeling included. I’m grateful for a teacher like you. I will always remember you.”
Meanwhile, from South Australia, Year 5 student Ella Wen of Loreto College Marryatville nominated her teacher, Miss Zappia, for her outstanding contributions.
“Miss Zappia understands what everybody needs to be better socially and academically,” Ella wrote.
“She helps students to see what they need to work on but she is not mean about it. I love that she makes the classroom feel safe.”
In Victoria, Stevie Cartwright, Year 3, from Sacred Heart Parish School in Sandringham expressed her gratitude to Mrs McGrath:
“Dear Mrs McGrath, I love you being my teacher because you are really nice. You make learning so fun and easy to understand. I love when you give us row points because we get a prize at the end of the term.”
